I'm sure or at least hope I'm not the first person to have done this so maybe there is an FAQ that I have not found yet.

I was rough cutting a project on FCP 5.1.2. All the original media files were downloaded off P2 cards from the Panasonic HVX200 to a Firewire drive and then imported into FCP. I did the edit and all was good.

The drive on my computer was getting super full so I decided to delete the render files, capture scratch files etc out of the Documets>Final Cut Pro Documents folder and some from the Documents>Render Files>Project Name folder.

Now, when I load the project it says the files are offline which I expected to simply reconnect to the FW drive but that does not work.

I'm thinking that maybe when I imported that those files landed on my computer HD, not the FW drive and now I've deleted them.

I have the project saved so the timeline sequences are there but I can't seem to reconnect.

Can anyone point be in the right direction?

Thanks!

Well first and foremost, from what I'm seeing in your posting, I'd take any of the offline clips, take the filename for it, and then do a search for that filename on the FW drive. Seems like you need to first establish, yes or no, do your files exist on the FW drive at all.

If they do exist and you're having trouble with the reconnection dialogue, maybe just reset your preferences. That might be all it will take. Then you can reconnect and be off and running right away.

If you did import the P2 media to your system drive and have no deleted your system drive, and never copied from the system drive to another drive (ie. made a backup), then ah you're that certain creek w/o a paddle it would seem. Good luck.

cheers.
