Hello all,

Is a standard internal SATA drive suitable for realtime editing of 100 Mb/s DVDPRO HD footage or is something like a medea g raid absolutely a necessity?

The mac in question is a new mac pro quad core 3.0 GHZ xeon G5. I'm curious how many streams of real time footage I could playback in real time.

Thank you,

Eddie

Dunno, but I run 4 on a G5

Don't use system drive for editing, though.

Probably an internal raid...
Check here: http://www.g-technology.com/Products/G-SATA.cfm
They claim 4 streams on their eSATA drives, so an internal one should perform the same...
You should nevertheless look into a raid setup for intensive work and overall performance...

The internal SATA is plenty fast enough to do DVCPRO-HD. I use my secondary internal drive plus an external FW800 drive. I have no problems what so ever.

The internal SATA drive is plenty fast enough to so just about any format you care to edit. I make sure I install the largest one I can afford at the time.
