I have handed over a project to another editor and she keeps trying to open the project file and it is giving her the following message: General Error (41) and can't find the translation application or document.
We both have final cut 5.0 - i have 5.1.2, not sure what she has.
I save the project file 2 ways - one just a simple save, the second as an XML doc - Apple Interchange Format version 3. Neither will open.
She is opening them within the application as well.
Anyone know how to solve this problem?
thanks.

Well, first make sure she has the same version as you.
Here's a link to another forum that discusses this same problem.

OK. When I updated FCP to the latest version and then opened a project file it asked me if I wanted to update the project file to the current version. I assume then that if your running latest version and she isnt that would be causing your problem. Have her run the update and all should be OK, if shes on 5 its free anyway.

I told her to do that so we will see what happens...

use XML ver 1!
HuH? care to add a link?
well considering he may be going from a newer version to an older version you should use the first version of XML "XML ver 1" because it will be most likely compatible. I have gone from 5.x to 4.x , and as far as a link to XML 1 well you'll just have to open FCP, the "internet" cant link to a drop down in FCP...

You might even be able to use XML version 2 as I was running 5.0.4 and had XML version 2 as an option. But for pre FCP 5 versions that support XML you need to use XML version 1, IIRC.

i've had a similar problem, but the project files are going from the same, updated version of FCP. I'm getting the "General Error (41)" message as well. I searched on google and other forums for how to fix this, but only found some info on someone noticing the difference in text between the working files and the non working, but not how to fix it. does anyone know what to do? thanks so much
