View Full Version : multi projector slide shows
I don't see any multi projector slide shows anymore, you know the Coyote systems and such with 18 projectors dissolving and the neat special effects that were achieved. I know the digital age is probably responsible for the demise of this technology but is that genre dead or are people still doing the same sort of thing with data projectors? I used to love the choreography of these shows all set to music it was a thrill to watch. I see dove systems and stackers collecting dust at the back of warehouses all over the city. Anyone have any info on the state of this artform overall, is it truly a thing of yesteryear?

I was GM for the company that specializes in the modern equivalent. AVHQ and Folsom Technologies (http://video.folsom.com/) (now a division of Barco) partner on this stuff. They were a flagship house for the Encore and BlendPro systems.
If you were used to what was done with slide-driven multi-image, this stuff would blow you away.

Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for. I really haven't seen any multiple image slide shows since expo 86 hit town. I don't remember any of the corporate shows I've worked on, even the big ones using this technology. Seamless switching yes but no multi image projection. Good...So It isn't dead it's just wearing a different shirt now:)

I'd equate it to a very expensive shirt that your multi-image projectionist wouldn't want to smoke or drink in when operating.
That too has changed since the eighties. It's a one-million dollar shirt - and that's just a tight little one that got washed too hot.

I'm guessing really big rock concerts performed by the Stones or Floyd would use this type of gear on those mamoth screens they tend to use as backdrops, yes?

A buddy of mine did the Rod Stewart show last year and they had a composite IMAG system - it was pretty sad really.
Folsom does a lot of work in dissolving one computer source from another - they call it ScreenPro. It's harder than one would think to do it without a hard switch due to disparate refresh rates, resolutions and sync issues - you know, those old chestnuts.
If you go to E3, JavaOne any of the Sun or MacWorld or whatever technology shows, you're very likely to see this stuff. Awards shows use it too.

A friend of mine just put on a music show at this venue yesterday. I didn't get to go, but I'll ask for some video or pics of the event.
