spoken with true actor's confidence . . . I love it!
after spending four solid years on stage, I haven't acted in over 10 years now. I would love to return someday because I really enjoy the whole process.
have you been in any of the previous festival's films? I'd like to see you in action if the films are still available online.

EDIT: I just re-read your first post, so I'm on my way to snodart's page to watch cache . . .

Yes...please let me know what you think. I myself have been acting for over 30 years now. Some theatre, some film and a good deal in the sales industry....believe me...you need to have some solid acting chops there my friend.

I do not completely think that I am out of turn or devoid of all logic and reasoning when I say that we have hit a very critical turn as a collective when it comes to the craft of using film as a medium to tell a story. We live in very interesting times indeed and it will be quite a spectacle to see what unfolds over the coming years.
I harken back to the 80’s when a film by the name of Sex, Lies and Video tape graced the screens of a good number of multiplexes, escaping from the art house which was the fate of most independent features of that time. Sodenberg’s character driven drama fueled with the kind of meaty introspective dialogue and rich acting performances on a somewhat taboo subject, we were given what might be in our minds at the time the future of film. At least in my mind…what I saw was that the future held a place and the public had a demand for films and entertainment that thrive or substance and not budget or studio backing. Since then we have seen the like of Tarentino and Rodrigez and many more who were ushered in through the door that swung infinitely wider over the following years…
…but something happened along the way. The fact that film had become easier and cheaper to make did not necessarily make them better.
Flash forward to day…where entertainment has drifted from your television screen to youTUBE and basically anyone with a digital camera can produce a film and have it available online for any number of people to view around the world. Has it made the quality of entertainment better?
Also over the past few years we have witnessed the death of the traditional sitcom and slowly but surely dramatic television and the like save for a few shows and risk taking networks is falling by the wayside as less expensive/higher profit reality television has taken it’s place.
Even the “big” studios are backing and making a hefty profit on “reality” movies such as Jackass and Borat.
The substance and craft of filmmaking is changing. For the good or for the bad..who knows yet. Everything changes….and it always will.
With the advent of the affordable digital camera such as the DVX it is more possible today for a filmmaker to get his or her film made then ever before. That is why it is more important than it has ever been to create work of substance. To take risks. To tell stories that no one else will tell. To hold a mirror up to society in a way that it has never been shown to them before. Refute mediocrity!
Can this be done in a 6 minute dramfest short? I hope so. I want to see it and I hope that you will show it to me.

Herman,
for me, my film is much more a learning process than it is an artistic expression. since it's my first attempt, I fully expect it to be flawed in just about every area, from the writing to the shooting to the editing (and even the encoding!).
I'm hopeful that I will learn a ton this time and apply it to all my future projects.
then I'll have something to show . . .
