I don't know where to put this thread... so correct me if this 'aint it.

Years ago I bought four volumes of Jumpbacks... and I spent all day loading them up complete with previews into my video hard drive. Jumpbacks are an odd video tool... used sparingly and properly they can be really cool... used improperly or out of place they can be cheezy as hell. 95% of the people out there don't know what to do with them... which is nice because it makes the rest of us look good. The Daily Show or Colbert is a good example of Jumpbacks used properly.

Anyway... so I'm at one of my "twice a year" uses for one... and suddenly... it don't work anymore! They won't load up in Vegas, Media Player, or Quicktime... nope... will NOT work without the disc in... So I immediately fire off a complaint letter to Digital Juice because I paid over $600 for this crap... and if you count the tiny bit that they get used the cost per use is stupidly high. 6 months ago they worked perfectly... what changed?

Did the media player put in some kind of a license searching thingy? WTF? Digital Juice's reply was that, "we sell media... if you bought the discs then there shouldn't be a problem... just make new discs off your harddrive"...

Well I tried that and that didn't work either... it's not Digital Juice's fault that I have to find the discs that I probably misplaced 4 years ago... but it sure is annoying that you can buy something... have it work great for years... and then suddenly stop working due to the seller throwing a wrench into the otherwise smooth machinery.

Unless some member can help me on this I WILL find the discs and then I'll be sure to shove that serial number up the tailpipe of those guys and I'll also be sure to never endorse this stupid product again.

In the meantime... can sombody help me out? I had a client over the other day and I was all excited to show them my rarely used jumpbacks... we both sat there looking at the screen wondering what the hell the problem was... everything was fine 6 months ago. So what gives you freakin' juicers? Thanks for making me look like a jerk in front of my client!

That is odd -- I use them so very rarely as well. Usually just to add a touch of motion to a lower third or something. I hate seeing them on TV or in other work when they've not been altered one bit. It just seems so lazy and like a missed opportunity.

As for codec, I've never had a problem bringing the QT files into After Effects. Have you recently upgraded your Quicktime or something?

what isnt working? are you getting an error? is there other data on the same drive that is readable? I have jumpbacks on an ext drive I use once a year and they work fine... are you using the juicer search program thingy or are you looking at the actual files on a drive?

Think of them like stock background animations.

Mattin, when's the project due? PM me and I'll see if I can whip something up for you, depending on the deadline.
