I keep getting Playback stopped after importing footage to the timeline and in the review monitor....help a brotha out. I can play clips in premiere no problem so I have 1 gig of ram and a 3.4 ghz Processor.

How fast are your HDD's. That could be a problem, as Brandon said in another thread. 1 gig of ram ain't great either. You might want to think about 2gigs. Really a dual core processor is recommended. But people have been able to play realtime DVCPROHD files using laptops that don't even have the specs you're listing.
So, you either have to much stuff running in the background, not enough ram, or slow HDD's. Generally, you want to have a HDD that you installed EDIUS on, and a separate HDD for your footage.
Probably any or all of the above 3.

It's probably the application configuration -- open up the Settings dialog, go to Playback, and make sure Edius isn't configured to stop playback if it can't apply all filters/effects etc. in realtime.
