Filming with a mini 35 adapter for the first time.

So I will be filming my first music video, and we have a budget, so we were thinking of using a mini35 adapter. Just wanted to get some tips on using it. What are the best lenses to use, how much will it coast to rent for a week, what should I know when using it and whatnot.

I will be using a sony z1 to film with, what should the settings on the cam be?

I will be looking for someone with experience to maybe help out on the set. Experience on music videos in necessary. I would also be willing to work on a few music video sets free of charge to see how everything works. (if you live in b.C)

Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

You can see some of my work at http://web.mac.com/raindropfilms/

There are also some of my films at http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=1498708769

Pleas take a look and leave a comment.

Also, what about this m2thing, is it better?

Not trying to be off topic but... The demo in your website simply rocks! Sorry. I just had to say that. The stuff with the bikes and the artist doc blew me away. Wow!

Carry on.

With the adapters, you loose 2 or 3 stops of light, so be prepared to really light up any interior shots. I dont know how well the Z1 or FX1 do in low light, but the higher gain/iso settings might out of the question. For the same reason, you'll probably shooting with your aperture wide open on both lenses, so you have to be very careful with your focus. On an SD camera you might have some forgiving room, but on HDV footage people will see if your even a hair out of focus.

I would tell you to measure all your focus the old fashion way, but i'm not sure how precise the back focus on the 35mm adapters are.

if the infinity mark on the lens is Infinity on the screen its properly backfocued. use a measuring tape to focus. then micro adjust on the monitor with your eye.

and make sure you take a day or two to practice with it before shooting to make sure you have the kinks out. Hopefully they will have a PL mount so you can rent some real cinema lenses instead of still camera lenses.

i think most rental houses package the Mini35 with a PL standard. then you rent hte lenses from them too.

The wedding stuff should definitely be on a different demo.
