I saw this yesterday. There's an amazing amount of grain here. Some guy at dvinfo blamed it in the fact that the person who shot it was not an experienced shooter and shot everything in automatic...I don't think this makes sense. This is a small little camera that is probably aimed at run and gun shooters on a budget. If you do run and gun and you are in the middle of a moving crowd you are forced to relly on good automatic. Sony really messed up this time.

I have to disagree with that statement. No camera will give great results in ato mode, especially in low light situations. In my opinion, full auto shooting is really designed for shooting in optimal to moderate lighting situations, ie. outside, or around the house with normal lighting.
I agree that the shooter is at fault here, as any (professional) shooter who shoots run and gun, should at least white balance and lock down the gain to an appropriate setting, then just ride his expoure during the shoot.
At least lock down the gain and then shoot in auto, whcih you can do. The problem with auto on any camera is that if you don't lock down the gain then the camera with ride that gain, usually way to high.
I shoot run and gun for live events, hockey games, weddings, recitals and such, and still have the time to properly adjust my cameras setting and ride the gain as needed.
No auto for me, only manual. I am waiting to see what results shooters get while shooting in all manual instead of auto.
