When HDV in here can we use SD cams as decks?

When HDV in here can we use SD cams as decks? Or do we need to use an HDV deck to transfer the footage to our computers?

HDV is a different format, and HDV requires HDV. A DV camera can do nothing with an HDV tape.

(or so we think, because as of yet I don't think there are *any* legit HDV products on the market YET. JVC's stuff predates the HDV standard.)

However, it seems exceptionally unlikely that a DV deck will understand an HDV tape, since DV was standardized years and years before HDV was even thought of. HDV may prove to be backwards-compatible with DV, but there's not a prayer that DV will prove to be forward-compatible with HDV.

So if you want to go HDV, you're going to need to go HDV all the way.
