Well, I guess I can't resist attempting another DVXUSERfest entry--although I'm still planning on shooting my NON-DramaFest project, "METRO," I'll be working on the writing for that project for quite a while longer. Since my "METRO" banner has now been replaced in my sig by my new DramaFest entry's banner, here's my old sig graphic one more time, since you may not see this banner again for some time now . . .

http://www.24framefilms.com/METRO/METRO-10.jpg

So, now on to DramaFest . . . below, is my first banner design for "CROSSWALK" that I actually posted . . .

initial banner design no. 1

And then, three more redesigns later . . .

http://www.24framefilms.com/CROSS/B13X.jpg
revised banner design no. 4

Now, I'm much happier with design no. 4, above. The first one just was playing around with ideas--just a hodgepodge of images. But now, it's simpler and more graphic. Thanks for all the kind words below!

revised banner design no. 5 [current banner]

Finally got my Nikon D70 out to shoot some fresh images for "CROSSWALK." Now added the "don't walk" image I shot yesterday to the new, improved banner design no. 5, above.

Thanks for the "bumps" guys! I've been planning some fun new camera rigs for this one! Can't wait to start shooting some tests. Can't wait to come up with a script idea either! Not sure I'll get it done in time, but I'm gonna try. I think I've cast a pretty hot chick I met at a premiere recently. We'll see if she comes through or not.

This is some really nice looking test footage. Do you always do test footage before shooting the "real" thing?

Ralph Oshiro
01-05-2007, 02:55 AM
Do you always do test footage before shooting the "real" thing? Thanks for the kind compliment! Well, I ALWAYS shoot stuff even before I have "anything" [anything written] to "get excited" about the project. It's basically stuff to keep me busy before I can get my talent cast and committed. I can't just say, "Hey, can you come over for four hours while I just shoot some 'ideas?'" Again, as in RUNWAY, it helps me think and get ideas. I can't seem to write anything until I start shooting something, so it's kind of a method created by necessity.

was runway for a dvx user contest? Also, did it win anything. I like your shooting style. Were you also the DP?

was runway for a dvx user contest? Also, did it win anything. I like your shooting style. Were you also the DP?I submitted RUNWAY for DVXUSER HorrorFest, even though it really didn't work as a traditional horror piece. But thanks! Yes, I am the DP. And, no, it didn't win anything. I'm also the AD, the PM, the PA, the soundman, the dolly grip, set designer, costume designer, and craft services guy.

Damn Rez, I just love your shots! Amazing!

And, as alway, your banner is the BEST! Thank you for the breakdown of how you created it. I love the process.

I am looking forward to more of your unconventional way of storytelling.... shoot stuff, assemble and then create a story (or something like that!).

Keep it up! Looks great!

"CROSSWALK" IS DEAD!

Ralph Oshiro
01-26-2007, 02:17 AM
Why I killed "CROSSWALK" . . .

Well . . . I dusted off my aborted SciFest script, and magically came up with a new act one, and a whole new act three last night . . . and, I think it ROCKS! Much more ACTION, more VENGANCE, more SEX, more NUDITY, more BLOOD, and way more VIOLENCE! So, instead of diverting my efforts on DramaFest, I'm going full-ahead on writing, developing, and prepping for this new project now. Instead of a one-trick-pony short, my SciFest script is now taking on the form of a longer short or mini-feature. I was FINALLY able to engineer a FEMALE PROTAGONIST into the script! She's going to be awesome, too--kinda like "Ripley" in Aliens--she'll be way hot, and be wielding a HUGE gun in the movie. This new film certainly won't win any Sundance awards, but it sure should be fun to watch!

I'm EXTREMELY excited about this new project since this will be my very first short film that I'll actually have a FINISHED SCRIPT to shoot from BEFORE I ACTUALLY START SHOOTING! WOO HOO! I'm already gathering set pieces--I just scored a major set piece today from a musicvideo shoot! I would really like to shoot it with RED, since I've recently drunk the Kool-Aid, and just signed up for a reservation number last Sunday. But, I'm not sure I can wait that long. I may just start shooting it with my standard-def Sony DSR450.

That's too bad to hear man, I was looking forward to Corsswalk.

Your sci-fi project sounds interesting. I think I'd wait for Red, that will give you more time to work out any issues and get your set pieces (but I'm not sure what the wait is... so I might settle for the killer images your DSR puts out).

Keep us posted on your new one.

You're so psyched about this new project! That's a great feeling and I can tell by your enthusiasm that your sci-fi project is going to kick some serious @$$! Keep us up to date on it's progress and congrats on getting that 'Red' Kool-Aid. Hopefully I'll be joining those ranks soon.

You're so psyched about this new project! That's a great feeling and I can tell by your enthusiasm that your sci-fi project is going to kick some serious @$$!Well, thank you, Geoff! I really, really loved the mood and the look of your Project 47 short, and I actually became quite inspired by it to try and re-examine my old SciFest script. This is the genre I really love anyway, and it's really fun for me to write that negative-Utopia, near-future, dark sci-fi stuff. Thanks for all your kind words of support!

I'm serial #1148, so it may be a year or more, I'm guessing, before I see delivery--I just don't know, and I don't believe anyone at RED knows either yet. Crosswalk would've been a fun little project, but it would've been almost as laborious to produce as RUNWAY.

Keep us posted on your new one.I'm so excited about it, I'm sure you'll be hearing more about it! How is your short doing? How did it make out on the SciFi-channel horror contest? Any other festival entries pending for it? Again, I was very impressed with your short!
