hey does anyone know if a XL2 with a mini35 adapter and the stock lense looks good, or does it need to be an after market lense?

If you mean using the stock lens to pick up the M35, yes, it will look great. If you mean the lens to actually "capture" the image, you will need a still or film lens (Nikon, Cook, Canon, etc.)

ok...i am really new to this mini35 thing, i guess i dont know what you mean by "pick up" the M35, the way I understood it was that there was an adapter that you put into the lense port thing, and then put a lense on the adapter so instead of: " camera > lense" i thought it was "camera > mini35 > lense" so if you could just clairify that, it would be great.

Almost. Here is basically how it works:

CANON XL2 > CANON XL2's STOCK LENS > M35 > M35's LENS OF CHOICE.

The XL2 can be fitted with an EF Adapter which makes mounting still lenses directly to the body possible. However, in doing so, the camera magnifies the lenses image by several hundred percent. (for example, a 50mm lens would look like a 200mm lens) It basically just makes everything telephoto.

So would there be a lens you could get so when the EF adapter does its magnifing make it a 50mm lens?

It would have to be around 6mm so the answer is no. The EF adapter is most useful for outdoors shots where you need the long telephoto.

To get 35mm style depth of field, the M35 is used. It transfers the image from a 35mm lens onto an image plane made from ground glass (or perhaps plastic). The XL2 stock lens is then focussed onto the image plane and the depth of filed of teh 35mm lens is captured onto video.

There are also other 35mm adapters available that include a transfer lens, so you can remove the stock lens from the XL2. You'd need to search for these though as I'm not familiar with the details of how each adapter works.

The P+S and the Letus35XL both offer relay lenses to directly attach the adapter to the XL´s body.
The Letus also happens to be fairly inexpensive and yields great results with the XL2.
Using an adapter infront of the 20x Canon lens not only looks clumsy, but also ridicules the fact that the XL2 offers a detachable lens at all...

Where can i find the Letus for purchase?
