Anyone in FL?
I am driving down for the next shuttle launch Dec 7th.
Any DVXUsers in FL planning on coming out for it?

ooo wish I could, now that I have a dvx...when we were doing 'From the Earth to the Moon' NASA offered a standing invitation to any crew members who wanted to attend a launch. We went to the 2nd MSL lanch (Columbia) and they put us in the bleachers by the big clock...
...of course back then the dvx was just a glimmer in some Panasonic engineer's eye...

I'm only 45 minutes south. Does that standing invitation still stand?

You got a boat????

Nope, no boat. There is a spot at the very eastern most part of Hwy 50 that is supposed to be great for watching the launches. You will need to get there at least 4 hours early to get a place though. I won't bother with it, unless I can be at the base. I can see it from my yard though, and even feel the rumble.

dude i went all the way to florida to see a shuttle launch, they have aclause on their tickets that if you get on the shuttle bus, your tickets are non refundabel, they drove us out there to tell us that the launc awasnt happenign today. The bastards knew about it before we got on, then they offered to sell us "halfprice" raincheck tickets.... Jerks. dont do it, though the Kennedy space center, do it with a boat like you said mark. Screw KSC....... bastards.

Well, we get in on the 6th, so we will either try to get tix for the visitor's center viewing, or find one of the other spots.
But the only shuttle I've ever seen was the Enterprise when I was a kid, and never flew. And since I am a HUGE NASA geek, I figured I'd better get out and see one.
I meant to see the past two, but was on a shoot during each. Urgh.

Timur - launches get scrubbed for many reasons, all of them good (the day I was there they held the clock three times, and *almost* scrubbed the launch; only went ahead when their weather-check pilots gave the go-ahead).
Sorry to say it's just a risk one takes; like you said, if you don't mind being a little further out, maybe you're better off with a boat.
