Hi all,

I'm thinking of getting an HXV-200, but without the P2 cards. I'm thinking of just recording in standard def until I can afford a P2 card or a hard drive.

I'd like to know this: Is it possible to record DVCPRO50 straight to the miniDV compartment? DVCPRO50 is standard def, so presumably one would think you could record this straight to tape, although I could be wrong.

Thanks,
rc444.

Not a chance!
Sorry, but DVCPro50 is twice the data rate (Hence the "50"). There is a full size (I think) DVCPro50 tape but that is for real grown-up camcorders, trying that with mini Dv tape would most likely cause an unholy tangle.

In short, the DVX records only DV to tape. It doesn't record DVCPRO to tape, which is 25 mbps just like DV.

rc444 (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/member.php?u=20034) vbmenu_register("postmenu_767450", true); , If i am not mistaken there is a promotion going on right now where panasonic is offering a free P2 card with the purchase.

Cheers,

Right -- buy it from an authorized dealer and you get a free 8GB card, so no need to worry about that anymore.
