Hello,
Just returned from Colorado shooting a new outdoor series for OLN with two new 100As. Shot in 24P, and the cameras performed flawlessly. I was blown away. Sure beats carrying 25 pounds of Beta up mountains at 10,000 feet!!! HOWEVER the tight end of the lens is weak in big country, and I'm interested in tele-converter options. I'm aware of the Century Optics 1.6. Are there any other quality options out there right now. Vignetting seems to be a problem. Are there any that are true zoom-through? Would appreciate opinions and some direction. Thanks.

There are no other options at this time. And vignetting is a problem below about Z60. Century basically says that with their teleconverter installed, you have a functional 2x zoom lens (36mm-72mm). So you only attach the Century when you want long telephoto shots. There are no zoom-through teleconverters for the DVX.

the Century Optic tele-adapter REALLY improves the focus ability at full zoom.

Can you specify how it works and what drawbacks it has?

It's just a telephoto extender lens, which gives you 1.6x as much telephoto magnification. Longer telephoto = shallower DOF.
Drawback is that you can only zoom out to about Z60 before you start getting vignetting. That and the price tag, it's a little hefty at about $700, but it's the ONLY teleconverter that works with the DVX.

Is there any comparative shots online besides the one at Century Optics website? The one with the guy on the crane with a hardhat on was shot with a Canon lens.
I shoot alot of hair shows in convention centers and I would prefer using my camera instead of the rentals they provide me. Not sure if the 1.6 would give me the closeup shots I need and be able to give me the wide shots i need .

It will not give you wide shots so forget that. It does very well as a telephoto accessory. I use it extensively myself and it is crystal clear.

No wide shots possible. Century says that with the lens installed, you then have a 36mm-72mm zoom range. Which means the widest shot you can get, with the lens installed, is equivalent to a regular DVX shooting at about Z93.
For an example of how much the teleconverter adds to the zoom range, look at the sample shot at http://www.icexpo.com/dvx100/century.html
