OK, so this seems to be happening to more and more people so hopefully someone will find the solution, I have been shooting a number of feature films with the HVX and have developed a great workflow system, and my 1st AC took it for granted, in the middle of a 10 day shoot, all of Day 5 and Day 6 footage is corrupt, nothing was done differently and the same equipment was used throughout. The footage downloaded from the P2 cards takes up space, but will not import into Avid or FCP and both say the files are corrupt or not valid. I have noticed that the xml files do not contain the normal info they should and quite possibly could be part of the problem. I also noticed that the icon folder which normally displays a bmp clip of the scene does not display an image.

Has anyone conquered this problem? I have also tried the repair function on the camera with no success. After reading through a number of posts it seems like this is one of those problems that no one has an answer for and it is very ominous that Panasonic is not talking much about it. Any ideas are appreciated.

And yet I must ask again -- were the files copied off the cards using a PC or a Mac?

Barry, I used a PC to dump the P2 cards to a Raid 1 external USB drive

What happens if you try to play the clips in the p2 viewer?
Same problem?

I've been hearing about people who throw away their high-speed cables - Firewire or USB 2 - after a few months' use. Makes some kind of sense to me. We chuck tons of micro-volt variations down these flimsy cables yet throw them into the production bags and dump other stuff on top, quite apart from having them run next to power leads and PSUs and what not other sources of high-frequency waves, and expect all the error-correction in the hand-shakes to keep it all error-free? Well, long and short of it is that those who work with 'fresh' cables report fewer problems with file, HDD and other corruption problem. Seems worth trying to me: we all have too many of the dang leads everywhere anyway.
