Syncing multiple HVX's

On a 4 camera (all hvx) shoot and trying to get the timecode jammed as per the section in Barry's book, but couldn't get it happenning. Anyway woke up today and it dawned on me, we were shooting in 720/24PN. Now I know that no signal is passed out the firewire port in this mode, so does that include timecode? Has anyone managed to sync cameras in this mode? Would the solution be to change the frame rate mode to get the timecode in sync and then change each camera back afterwoods?

You are correct, you can't do it in 24pN mode. You'd have to switch to 24P mode, sync, and then switch back.

Read the "sync'ing timecode" article here on the site to learn the other drawback to sync'ing timecode (which is, to say, that it doesn't actually work like you'd want...)
