Ok, I a question, I want to send my HVX through the xray machine at the airport because its part of the scene that Im creating, will this damage the HVX in any way or do anything to it? Any input would be appreciated!
.... someone's gotta know something......
X-ray machines won't hurt your laptop, video cameras, digital still cameras, hard drives, etc. It can damage FILM, but that's it.

If its part of a scene you are shooting, you may be able to run it thru with the xray off and the conveyor working. I am guessing that you are running the HVX as it goes through the device. This may change things a bit as usually devices are not operating when they go thru xray machines.
I personally would be a bit concerned about the electrical fields in the xray machine and if you did not have to expose the HVX to them... don't.

Interesting.. I have no idea, but would LOVE to see the footage.. Id also like to see the xray of the camera.. But not sure about it harming the camera.. I'd call panasonic, and make sure if anything goes wrong that you will be covered..

I am concerned as well... If I do do this the machine would be on cause I am actually doing this in an airport while Im traveling through.

Allot of us travel by plane and carry our HVX's on board. There's no way it's coming on without being xrayed.
I've never had any issues with losing data off of the cards or damage to the camera.

What about on and recording through the Xray machine, thats my concern...
No, never put anything "turned on" through an x-ray machine! You'll fry something out for sure! Turned off, fine, turned on, disaster!

Rent an HVX for the day and do it with the rental, thats what rentals are for.
If you have to, get them to turn the x-rays off and you can use a colored light for a practical effect. It is not like there will be a visual difference the viewer can see while youre shooting with the x-rays turned on.

My phone is always "on" when I send it through.

Well, looks like the count is against running it while recording...
I had to bring it to the top one more time...
I stili havent gotten a "definite" NO it will "not" work and it will damage your Camera!
or
Ive done it and nothing happened!
I still like the rental idea... but the only person I know I can rent from would hate me and I dont wish to burn any bridges.
SO, Ill bring it to the top one more time and hopefully I find a definite, yay or ney. I am leaving soon and wont have the leisure to be checking the forum for a bit...
Thanks for everyone that has shared their thoughts.

Be sure and let us know what happens to your camera, then we'll all know for sure! :crybaby:
Personally, I don't think it will hurt anything, but I state..."think".

The point is DelRio, unless the specific device has been tested in the specific situation, there is no way to know. Electromagnetic Intereference (EMI) is not a quantity that can be calculated explicitly. You may have no damage and everything works, you may have arcing from the high EM field, you may have EMI that does no damage but causes dropouts or distortion during filming (my guess). (This is why devices are not allowed to operate on aircraft, the testing is too expensive.)
So, be a prince and let us know how it works out :)
