Hey all!
So, I'm new to DVXUSER but I hear it's THE place to find the answers to life's most asked questions...

I am on a deadline of 3pm today so if anyone can lend advice I would greatly appreciate it.

What I need to do is: 1. I have videos in my PC that I need to get onto a DVD. Promgrams I own are Premiere Pro1.5, Nero 6 and Nero SmartStart, DVD Shrink and Windows movie maker.

and 2. I need to get footage off of a DVD and into the computer so that I can then cut and splice it in Premiere or Windows Movie Maker and then create a DVD from it.

Thank you very much!
I'll let you know how it turns out

Question 1:

(1.1) First edit your Video until you have your finished video.
(1.2) Render out the video as described by the DVD spefications:

Video ITU-T H.262/ISO-IEC 13818-2 (MPEG-2 Video)
ISO/IEC 11172-2 (MPEG-1 Video)
Audio ISO/IEC 13818-3 (MPEG-2 Audio)
ISO/IEC 11172-3 (MPEG-1 Audio) Dolby AC-3 standard
System ITU-T H.222 / ISO/IEC 13818-1 (MPEG-2 Systems)
Program/PES stream only (no Transport streams) [1]

(1.2.1) More generally speaking make sure that your settings are as follows:

MPEG 2, Max bitrate @ 9Mbits/sec , Interlace OR Progressive mode(doesn't matter) and Intra Frame Precision no more than 10 Bits. Audio as Mpeg layer 2 at something like 224 kbits(can be less or more).

(1.3) This MPEG video has to be authored as a standard DVD, any such authoring programs should be able to do it, Nero 6 as I remember correctly only authors Files that have be already pakaged as .vobs files. Use something like Ulead Movie Factory, select the video files (it should accept it IF its a legal DVD spec) then you can burn after making some simple DVD Menus OR, save the .vobs and use Nero 6 to burn them as a DVD.

Question 2:

(2.1) You can use Nero Re-enocde which is designed exactly for that purpose.
(2.1A) If you do not have access to Nero Re-encode, then you will have to rip the DVD and then convert the VOB back into MPEG2 files.
