Hi,
After going through a lot of forums (creative cow and Apple), I do not seem to be the only one who has problems importing P2 files from a Firestore FS100 and Apple FCP 5.1.2. Lots of people seem to get the thumbnails in the Import window ... even be able to play the clips and set new in-and outpoints but when they try to add to import queue
or drag into queue they get the red 8sided status warning sign.
We are not sure if this is a problem after we upgraded to 5.1.2 ... all seemed to work in 5.1.1 or is it since we upgraded Quicktime to 7.1.3 ... so my question ... who has a setup that works on the above mentioned configuration ... intel mac and OS X.4.7 or X.4.8 ... I got both ... a MacPro and a macBook Pro and both don't import from the Firestore ... funny but direct from the HVX ... I don't get any problems ... what is at the heart of this problem ?

I'm not certain what's going on here. I am sitting in a hotel room in Israel and just imported about 50 minutes of FS-100 footage into FCP 5.1.2. I coped the files from Firestore to hard drive. Then I just used the Import P2, set the path to the folder where I copied the footage, and everything was fine.
I would suggest that you trash your FCP prefs or even run the FCP 5.1.2.
Now, I have not tried importing directly from the Firestore, but I much prefer to dump the FS-100 to hard drive and import from there since it would be faster. I have both FW800 and a 750gig eSata drive with me. Copied my MXFs to the SATA drive and the import to FCP was very fast.

It is important to know what version of FCP you're running,
what firmware version of the FS-100 your're running,
and are you importing directly from the FS or from a local hard drive copy?
Nsoltz, import is just as fast either way, as the FS is just a firewire hard drive anyway. So don't worry about speed. But do back up your CONTENTS folder. I've been testing and found FCP 5.1.2 will import just fine with no LASTCLIP.TXT file. But I won't publish that, as I don't know what the deal is. I thought without the LASTCLIP.TXT file you couldn't import. Go figure.

....I did the same thing with my first import the other day. Seemed to work just peachy.

I imported about 200 clips the other day from my FS-100 (v2) into FCP 5.1.2. and had 6 clips that had that symbol. All I did was go back upto my FS list and hit retry. They all came down fine the second time. Just a momentary glitch in the matrix.
There is also a tool in the FS that can repair corrupted clips. Maybe if the power cut off while recording or the cable came off, it will fix those file.
I'm shooting DVCPro50 by the way and looks AMAZING! Good luck!

We are looking into this now. I did hear from a customer this morning who said that he was able to import the clips that showed an import error (red exclamation point) with no problems when he used FCP 5.1. So that is a possible work around for now, but Alex 3D's solution seems to be a good first step... "All I did was go back up to my FS list and hit retry. They all came down fine the second time."

As I had just written to Ben in a private message, I just had a problem with 2 clips that just said (incomplete) after the clip name. I had no red exclamation points so I have no idea what's going on here.

I think that yachtclubav might have found a work-around for this problem??
Check out his solution:
I made a new thread to outline the methods that have worked for me in several tests. These current threads seem cluttered and i wanted to keep it organized somewhere... but sorry for the mulitple threads on the same topic!
