Ok I just got a FS-100 and am trying to figure out how exactly this works. Ive read the manuals for the FS-100 and the HVX. It seems like everything it refers to is in tape mode. I thought you can record in P2 mode to the fire store, directly using the firewire output as a large P2. I am having a hard time setting this up this way. I have all the latest firmware on the FS-100 and have followed all the instructions until they lose me.
Ive searched past forums and they seem be more about other problems with the fs-100. I cant evenget it hooked up properly.

Or if anyone can direct me to a related forum. I just want to record directly to firestore directly with or without a p2, in p2 mode... and would like for the firestore to know when I press record on the camera and stop.
The user manual is pretty straight forward, PM me if you want details, as it may get too involved for this forum. Where did the maual lose you?

Are you sure you're not talking about tapeless? In the Functions menu there is this option. Let me know if you need help setting up in more detail. :-)

In a nut shell, on the FS-100, you need to set these menus as follows:
RECORD - Normal
HDD MODE - DVCPROHD REC
DV FORMATS - P2
CONTROL - TAPLESS
There are other controls, but these are the basics.
On the HVX200:
In the OTHER FUNCTIONS menu:
1394 CONTROL - BOTH
1394 CMD SEL - REC_P
PC MODE - 1394DEVICE
That should take care of your basic set up. When you hit the record button on the HVX200, there should be a readout on the left of the screen that said "1394". When you hit record, it should have a red dot next to it, when you stop recording, it will become red pause symbol, parallel red lines.
It can get more complicated, but that's the very basics.

OH YEA! thank you both (BenB, Alex 3D) for the input! it was the tapeless setting in the firestore and the both setting in the HVX! Thanks again! I really appreciate you running me the setting for both devices!
