Many of us are editing HD content on PCs never designed specifically for the task. With the promise of 2k and 4k editing requirements literally months away, I think it's a good time to get into the nuts and bolts of building a budget-wise, performance-focused DIY Windows Vista PC.
So, using today's common components - motherboard, processor, hard drives, extended memory et-cetera - what would you build? Would you choose AMD or Intel - why? Asus or MSI or...?
A cluster of Seagate drives in SATA - or a smaller, single internal IDE for OS and apps. with project drives housed externally?
How would you configure it? How can you get the most for your money?

CASE / POWER SUPPLY - BRAND, TYPE (e.g., mid-ATX)
MOTHERBOARD - Why? What specific features attract you to it?
PROCESSOR - How much do we need?
MEMORY - Favorite brand of DDR2, how much for 32 or 64 bit?
STORAGE - With vast amounts of source material, how would you scale your solution based on each project?
SOUND - Oft neglected. What are you doing to replicate studio-quality monitoring on a budget? What is the best value - what are the trade-offs?
MONITORING - CRT or LCD, multi-panel or larger single. How will 2k and 4k change your monitoring requirements?
