I'm on the verge of purchasing a PAL DVX100A but I am a bit confused about the model no's. I have seen both DVX100AE and DVX102A advertised. Can anyone tell me what the difference is?
thanks for your help....

No difference in features, just a different model # used to track gray-market imports in Europe.

Thanks Barry,
I've noticed that some DVX's differ in appearance. Does the 102 have a lighter/cream colour casing?

As far as I know all DVX100's look alike, and all DVX100A's look alike. DVX100's look a little different than DVX100A's. DVX100's have a lighter gray, DVX100A's are a little darker.

I think the 102AEN is meant for the the Asian market.
May follow this link.

Yeah, I am buying locally. Just looking around to get the best deal at the moment. Panasonic pointed me towards Sensys, where did you buy yours?
Hi,nice to know see a fellow singaporean here.I bought mine from sensys too.Understand from Panasonic S'pore website that Expandore is not a authorized dealer, hence better to buy from an authorised one,at least the warranty is from Panasonic S'pore. Its a good camera thou, you will never regret buying one.Anyway I got good service from them. Can look for Wang if you are interested.

Bought yesterday from Sensys. Very happy with the service. What NLE are you using for capture and editing?
I don't do my own editing.Basically I just shoot n pass it to my friend to edit on his FCP.there is alot of software on the market depending on your budget.guess you must be looking for one.

Basically, DVX102AE = DVX100AE.
I got mine from Singapore, VideoPro, in Sim Lim Square. By the way, where's Sensys?

Yeah, it's a shame about that because they are a very helpful and proffessional company.

just invested in new rig.
P4 3G
1G RAM
3 X 160 SATA Hitachi HDD
TDK DVD 8X DL
Matrox RXT100
So I guess I'm learning Prem Pro and figuring its diff with Prem 6.*
yes, I bought from Sensys as well.
I'm an independent/freelancer now, just quit from day job to do this full time. figured not to let my B.A. in film and TV go to waste, even though local broadcast and films aren't anything to shout about.
Weddings and events, anyone ?? Hello to fellow countrymen here !

Sounds good! You've got a lot of storage there. What's the price of the Hitachi HD? Is it external or internal? I need a dedicated HD for capturing.
I started using Vegas after wrestling with Prem for a number of years.
Good luck with your venture!

I bought Vegas when I was recently in the U.K. What lighting are you using? I know a few places here that rent, do you rent or have your own lights?

No real lighting setup for filmmaking.
Just a cameratop light Frezzi microfill, for ENG/EFP. Waiting (forever) for my magiqcam to come. So have to do with cheap libec and handheld for now.
Seems like Alan here is a lucky fellow who doesn't need to do his own editing...
Me? I'm a oneman show. Business isn't good either. :-[

I'm sure things will pick up once you get some work and get a few recommendations.
I've been looking at the Glidecam 2000 but I'm unsure whether to buy one or not. Once you start in this business it seems like theres no end, like a bottomless pit!

hienben,
Once you've got hold of a Glidecam 2000, please share with us your experience.
Thx

I've heard that there is a bit of a learning curve to use this thing. The biggest problem is the strain on your arm. I'll let you know how I get on.

Let us know how you get on!
I got my DVX and my Glidecam 2000 last week
It took me a while to get the right balance for the glidecam
the only bad thing I can say about it is that there is no quick release for the camera, so everytime I want to take it off it means throwing that balance out and then doing it again when I put it back on
I guess I'm gonna have to start working out, holding this weight with one hand isn't that easy after a while
but the shots are worth it...

You can add a Bogen quick-release plate to the top of the GlideCam, which will make it easier to take the camera off/put it on, and should keep the balance more consistent.
