I have a issue with getting what sounds like a digital artifacting noise in my audio. The noise is not present until I start recording. I am recording to p2 cards in 720-24pn. Anyideas?

It's probably the sound of the ghost of the Chattanooga Choo-choo being picked up by the high quality mic that is plugged into your high quality mixer that is then plugged into your camera.

Well I guess my reply did it's job a bit and that was to pry more information out of you in regards to what equipment you have connected, the environment you're in, what you are recording, i.e. dialogue, a train, an aeroplane etc, but you still aren't very forthcoming with info so I guess anyone else would just have to take a guess as to the nature of your problem as well.

Details, what do you mean by artifacting? That term applies to video, not audio. Do you mean distortion? Simple, turn your gain down. If that's not it, you'll need to give us more specific information about your set up, and what the exact problem is.

The exact problem is noise.
My soundsman (and he is good one) was also complaining about too much noise in 720/25pn. And it's not only the leveling of the gain. Equipment: Schoeps >Mixer Audio Developments >HVX xlr in. Maybe the're is a unknown or 'hidden' set up?

Is the *Quality check of the present HVX build going down? I see more complaints here handling sound issues.

Hi

I too have this problem. Digital Dithering noise on BOTH audio channels when recording to a P2 card in the UPPER slot only.

For instance, if you use just 1 P2 card and put it into the upper slot, the audio that is recorded from microphones plugged in OR the built-in ones, has high frequency, continuous dithering in both channels.

Put the same P2 card into the lower slot with nothing in the upper slot, totally clean audio.

When BOTH slots are occupied, all audio that is recorded onto the upper card has the dithering - the lower card is clean.

I have tried this with 4GB and 8GB cards. There is no dithering when recording to tape.

I can hear the dithering through the headphones or the audio outs.

One last thing, the dithering only comes on when in RECORD mode. In REC/Standby, no dithering.

Currently waiting to get back to the UK so that I can send it in for warranty repair.

Best, Tim

Hey, we had audio artifacts long before video was even a twinkle in Zworykin's eye!
