What's the word on native capture compatibility with the XH A1 and Premiere Pro 2.0? Anyone know this?

I'll go out on a limb and say it will work just like XL-H1 HDV compatibility.

You'll probably want to use CineForm Aspect HD with PPro. I've heard native HDV in PPro is a bit laggy. Can anyone confirm this?

Depends on your system spec. I edit HDV on Pro regularly and it works pretty smoothly with transitions and such. Does lag when I add color correction tools though. Cineform probably will out perform it but PP2's native HDV is perfectly servicable.

That's good news. One area where my Kona SDI card has helped is HDV color correction in FCP. It's RT and can be monitored live to an HD monitor via component analog output.

Hey Jade... what are your system's specs? Just want to get an idea of if my system can handle it just as well. Thanks.

I've downloaded a ton of sample clips. And Premiere handles the m2t files very well. I didn't notice a huge difference between editing sd and hd. But as Jade said once you start cc'ing and adding effects it gets a little laggy. The big difference is that the render times are much longer. And that's even with my 7900gt, which enables the GPU render function for Magic Bullet. I don't think I'd want to edit a wedding quite yet, but short films and commercial work would be fine and dandy with my current setup.

AMD X2 3800
2 GB Ram
Geforce 7900gt
2x 120gb 7200 rpm internal
300gb external firewire

Hey guys, I just downloaded the aspect HD trial. It's really nice. I know aspect is expensive but the trial is FREE! So we might as well try it out for a while. It seems a lot faster and allows smoother scrubbing and more accurate frame jogging. My m2t files sit motionless for about 7 frames before re-rendering accurately.

This A1 is friggin' awesome!!!!

my order got delayed. They say its shipping between nov 9 - 16. I am so excited due to the fact that I am getting a new setup to be able to handle hdv. By the way, I have premiere pro 1.5 and I was wondering if premiere pro 2 is able to import .m2t files directly. Can anybody tell me?

I don't think it does. But I'm sure it's only a matter of time until all video editing applications start adopting this. One thing that I've heard that kind of freaked me out is that you cannot view what you are editing on a second monitor or output it to a tv when you use cineform. Can anyone confirm this? I find this hard to belive. It would be a tremendous pain in the ass if it was true. I cannot imagine editing only on the small screen inside premiere.

I have Premiere Pro 2.0 and have downloaded some sample .m2t files and imported them into my timelines just fine. Yes PP can import .m2t's.

Doesn't Premiere Pro have a full screen playback mode like FCP's Desktop Cinema mode? Either way, to live monitor the timeline from CineForm on an actual HDTV I'm pretty sure you need an HD card from AJA.

So to be perfectly clear...

The Canon XH A1 works with Premiere Pro 2.0?

Apparently the only thing you can't do is export to tape...which I'm sure they'll fix soon.

So I take that as a yes... PP2.0 "can" import footage from XH A1?

It should because it's basically no different to the computer than the XL-H1. Same transport protocol and m2t structure.
