I would love some input on my situation...

I am a pastor, of all things, and have been editing video for about 8 years now (started on SVHS with an Avid on to eventually an XL2/FCP 4.5). From my obvious posting drivel, I did not receive any formal training in film/video. For some reason, Hebrew and Greek classes didn't cover that. :)

I have started two congregations that met in theaters while in Baltimore, and the next one will be here in Phoenix... also in a theater.

I recently purchased the A1 and can't wait to get my hands on it!

Here's the deal... I am trying to think of the ideal projector set up that can really provide the best resolution and brightness for a theater context. I'd really like to project our work on the screen and look as film-like as possible... filling the whole screen - and showcasing the incredible images the A1 will produce (realizing that the A1 cannot compensate for poor lighting, shooting, or editing).

The best option I have found so far is the Canon LV-7575.

Here is a review of the projector. (http://www.projectorcentral.com/news_story_945.htm) The only problem I see with this projector is that it's essentially SD. It can simulate HD.

I would like to find the best set up for under $10,000 (Preferably between $4,000-$7,000) with these conditions in mind. Anyone have experience with projectors as well as editing?

Thanks in advance... :dankk2:

Boy, you really do pay for the lumens, don't ya? I have a 1200 lumen 720p LCD projector that I view H1 footage with...but it's always from a short distance to a 12 ft screen. I can't get that great an image in bright conditions.

It seems like that Canon projector would be fine, but XGA res will give you a 1024 x 576 letterbox image from the A1, at best. (assuming it accepts 1080i input)

Do you need a 5500 lumen projector? If you don't need such a bright venue projector, you can get 1080p home theater projectors in the $5K range now.

Yeah, I sort of do need the brightness... though perhaps not THAT much. lol -- Another one I am looking into would be this one by Eiki (http://www.aboutprojectors.com/EIKI-LC-W4-projector.html). Or this one, which is a bit cheaper and has better contrast ratio. (http://www.projectorcentral.com/EIKI-LC-W3.htm) Thoughts?

Yeah, a home theater one will not really do the trick for an AMC theater screen, KWIM?

Definitely KWYM ;)

That cheaper EIKI looks like it would do the trick. What you want is to know that it does a good job with pulldown removal so that your projected image doesn't show interlace judder frames.

Maybe do a rental and see how it performs before buying.

Definitely a good idea... Wonder how prevalent Eiki projectors are...
