After improting files from P2 card to FCP...are the captured files(QT) still HD or do i have to archive the MFX files to a hard drive. How can I make sure I remain in the HD domain.

yes, the QT files are still HD.

And yes archive your MXF files. As its been said in the past those files are your "master tapes."
