I was expecting a subforum to be created like last time, but I guess I was wrong. So here's my thread.
The title might be changed, but I think we'll end up sticking with this.
Also, I guarantee this will be one of the most original features in this festival. This will be a very powerful film if all goes well.

Edit: Nov. 8th: Here's a little music teaser (http://joshuanitschke.saber-x.com/forumfiles/DVXuser/dramafest/intromusic.mp3) from our extremely talented composer. :D

Good luck, I watched your Film Noir one the other day (not listened... I was at work and couldn't have the audio on) but I thought it had a great look. So I look forward to your new project and to see your improvements.

I like the title a lot.
BTW, What/who is "ANDROMEDA"?

Yeah, cool title. CMessineo, the ANDROMEDA is a modified DVX, basically. From what I understand the warranty is completely voided on the camera, but there's this group/business that will do some insane stuff to your DVX, giving you actually RAW uncompressed (4:4:4) footage. You've got to CC in post to make it look pretty, but the definition/size is supposed to be insane.
If I remember correctly, I think SIMILO (rec'd a lot of controversy in SciFest) was filmed with the same camera & was gorgeous.
Looking forward to seeing this.

Most DVX100a cameras are out of warranty anyway. Andromeda should compete nicely with the HVX pieces - I'm eager to see a short that originates on one!

You're totally right ... I thought about that after I typed it. I remember people being scared of that system at first, but for those who are beyond the warranty of the camera (if that was holding them back), and if they have the dough, then it'd be a great alternative/opportunity ... though I think the HVX still has several advantages (i.e. lens, variable speed, etc.).
That said, this will be among my top to watch, just for the visuals & to see what's put on the screen!

I sent in my DVX100b months after I bought it for the andromeda mod and am completely happy with it. Worth sacrificing the warranty imho.
More on the andromeda mod can be read here:
http://www.reel-stream.com/andromeda.php
But a quick summary of it is:
Records UNCOMPRESSED FULL BANDWIDTH RGB (4:4:4) direct from the Analog-to-Digital converters of the camera, before any processing is done.
Allows for output up to 1540x990 from the DVX100 by utilizing the pixel shift between the CCD's.
Yields wider dynamic range than footage normally captured with the camera. (about 9.5 stops)

I hope you guys are happy with what I deliver. :D

Thanks for the explanation. I loved "SIMILO" and I am really looking forward to seeing this as well.

Yeah, I was planning at some point to make one of my DVXs an Andromeda machine but they still don't have a PC version of the capture software.

Yeah, I noticed that too ... aside from the initial sticker price, the OSX only thing is keeping me from it.

That has more to do with OSX hardware....since it's controlled by only one company they know that the adromeda system will always work on it. Some PC USB hubs aren't fast enough to handle the capture data rate.
If they opened it to windows then there would be just too many options and they wouldn't be able to guarantee it'd work with you particular notebook.
It doesn't really matter though, I've done all the adromeda editing on my PC.

Good luck- I'm looking forward to seeing what deliver. As well as hearing about the production process - if it is at al hampered by the ANDROMEDA, enhansed by it, or not a factor at all.

To be honest Andromeda is a bit of hampering and helping. It helps because of the more dynamic range, but it hampers in that I have to be tethered to a mac. I got this right after my first project though, so I didn't have much of a chance to get used to be mobile. :)

Ok, some stuff about the actual movie:
There are three central characters.
Involves a huge "Theatre" (of sorts).
This is a co-genre piece....the two genre's go together perfectly. Obviously one of the genres is drama, but the other can be paired with other genres besides drama.... and often is. In fact, I'd hazzard that it isn't usually paired with drama, but I can think of a few where it is so....I hesitate to say that.
Most of the scenes take place out doors....so be prepared to see how good the extra latitude makes the film look.

Thanx for the updates! Sounds really interesting this 'theatre' essence you re saying and the two genre approach.

Well, I finally created a banner.
A little bit more about the plot:
This story is a story about life, death, remembering, and above all, heroism.
Casting is almost done, I need to do a bit more location scouting. I'll try to get one of the audition tapes up in the next few days.

Love the banner!!!! It's really great!!
The music is also very nice, has a.....hm....sigur-ros touch....(sigur-ros are a scandinavian band if you want to check them out)

How's everything going? I loved the look of your last short! Any updates?
Curious to know how you're doing with the setup? I'm
considering the Andromeda mod but, I likes my mobility.

Thanks Inexistence!
I'll be updating shortly with a picture of my setup that goes into mobility and the like. :) School's been incredibly busy and pre-production is keeping me busy as well.

Got way too busy with school and putting in my film school applications; I just ran out of time. :(
Also, my friends got jobs which means they aren't as available to help out.
Can't wait to watch all the entries for this drama fest, though!
