Well, I am MIA for the next long while, you'll be glad to know.
Gotta take a trip to the lawyers office. Working on the wifey's immigration stuff so she can legally work in this country. She has a freaking accounting degree and is smart as hell, but not allowed to work here... YET, damnit.
The poster is a work in progress, but the new title is the new title.
Later,
Nosaj
Jason Ramsey

Welp, went to the lawyer. Gave 800 dollars to the government for the immigration stuff. Hopefuly all that goes well.
Anyways, I have added a brief synopsis of plot/story outline.
I have changed the poster, yet again. And added a journal entry describing a bit where I am headed.
I hope you will find the time to check it out, and please leave feedback. The poster, is killing me. I think I am getting closer, but I am not a graphic designer. Feedback on that as well, would be appreciated.
Also, check out the books I bought today for the dvxuser festival and beyond.
"How to Write a Movie in 21 Days" - which was recommended by Barry in an old thread that was recently re-vived. I saw it, so I thought I would check it out.
"Rebel without a Crew" - The title seemed appropriate for what I am doing here, so I picked it up. Turns out it is by Robert Rodriguez, Director of "El Mariachi" and "Once upon a Time in Mexico". It is filled with his journal entries from idea phase, to landing a big hollywood agent and theatrical release, for the movie "El Mariachi". Which he made for 7,000 bucks. Looks interesting. I'll keep you up to date on the books if you are interested.

I like the "The New for real, for real poster" (That would be the one with the smoke and the eyes) poster the best so far, eerie.

I have read both books and they should provide all the inspiration you need. Just be careful if you decide to donate your body to science like rodriguez did. :)

Since my film doesn't have a budget, I think I will be ok, on this particular endeavor. :) Although, I do have to pay off the loan for all this equipment. What are they offering for plasma these days?
Thanks for the input. I'm glad you at least realized it was smoke tuttle :) That counts for something for my non-graphic design skills, right? :)
Thanks,

Yeah, my birthday was ok. Just another day, though the wife was especially nice to me :)

lol i wouldnt doubt it, he gave ME the creeps...
how long have you been married?
Jason Ramsey
11-01-2006, 11:26 AM
Nah, he is cool. People do seem intimidated by him for some reason though.... :) We're both pretty introverted and intense people, which I am hoping translates well into the roles for the film.
I have been married just a little over a year. We were married on September 10th of last year. Then our dog had 8 puppies that night, then died of stomach cancer. Yeah. I never thought I'd be married, and especially with a kid, but it really has been awesome for the most part. No horror stories. She keeps me in check, so I don't waste my potential as much as I used to :) We're just 2 poor folks trying to make it. Which is a great testament to her... before she came to the states for her master's degree, she had her own personal driver and all that. Labor is super cheap in Indonesia. Now, we can't even pay our bills :) YET
Anyways, Updated the first post with some ramblings, if anyone wants to read. In orange.

Update sounds good, I hope to be able to work through my script like that, it'll probably just be me and my brother reading it over and over and over.
What do you mean by technical stuff? Maybe you can post what your trying to do and we can give you some ideas/help.
Jason Ramsey
11-01-2006, 11:49 AM
As far as technical stuff... pretty much everything. I come from a Theatre acting background, with limited technical exposure. I am brand new to these cameras. I have worked at a radio station for the last 6 years, so sound editing should be ok, but capturing good sound is another matter. So, yeah... pretty much everything technical will be a big hurdle for me to try to overcome :) I am sure I will be doing much searching, as well as posting of more specific questions in the months to come. But, right now, I am still at the phase of trying not to get so much noise in broad daylight with my footage :) And just learning what all of the different settings of the camera can do.

Well, I had a breakthrough or two on the storyline last night and how it all unfolds. I really think it will help the completeness of the flick. As opposed to being largely a persons memory of events, (great for a play, not so great for a movie) I am looking at 3 stories happening at different times (simultaneously on screen) that all coalesce(is that spelled right?), and fulfill a unified dramatic thru line.
Details on this to come, when I get off work later this morning.

i dont know what kind of server you use to upload them, maybe you can check this out first, like for example, we have a domain with a 3 year contract and we upload stuff there and from there we post them here, so if i want to check about a broken link, i go to my domain config or just type the url on the browser to see if it's still there
like www.XXX.com/mybanner.jpg
Jason Ramsey
11-02-2006, 04:56 AM
I just uploaded all of it from the member upload center. Jarred must be having some problems. But he is sleeping peacefuly right now... shhh. (whispers...)"Hi Jarred" :)
Jason
*thanks by the way Versus
Jason Ramsey
11-02-2006, 05:06 AM
So, if I want to stop taking up Jarred's bandwidth, since I have my own hosting space, now... I just need to use the little [img] code and put the address linking to my pics inbetween there, right? like www domain dot com / dvxpics / pic.jpg, and use the code for images around that, yeah?
thanks,
Jason

Off Topic Rambling:
Over the last ten years I have become a mental wimp. I have become a menta wimp, because I have become a physical wimp.
When I graduated high school, I had a resting pulse of 49, ran a 5 minute mile and had nearly a 40" vertical.
Now, 10 years later, and however many packs of cigarettes later that is, That seems like someone elses past that they told me about. I used to be mentally tough. Now, I have absolutely no willpower, and not much mental toughness, when it comes to self-motivation.
I just have no idea what that piece was, that made me want to, and enjoy going out and doing whatever physical activity all day and night.
Now, I would be really lucky to make it once around the track.
I wish I could get back just a touch of that frame of mind. It would sure help

Well, I have the first 20 seconds of my film shot, and even rough edited :) It needs to be 10 and is subject to change, over, and over, and over....
Still on page 2 of the script. I basically just shot an initial, one word scene, which is where my 3 credits go on top of. Cut to black.. title fade in.. and out... then the rest :)
But, hey, it's a start.

UPDATE:
Well, I was about to get really pissed off, 'cause I couldn't find Barry's book. I found it. Right there next to my computer. Stupid.
Anyways, I am about to format my sd card for the first time, and load some of the scene files from the cd. I'm gonna toy around with those some.
Then, I will be shooting a test/real deal of the monologue sequence. We'll see how it goes. See if I can get something use-able or not.
Yeah, and I'm about to shave my head too, for the flick :)

Hey, Thanks a bunch Edgen.
I just filmed a teensie scene. I'm about to go try out a couple of takes on the monologue sequence with a new scene file :) Woo hoo.
Jason
Jason Ramsey
11-03-2006, 09:45 PM
Welp... I tried out the new scene file. The overall look was much closer to what I am looking for, but my inexperience with the ba-gillion settings on the camera left a little to be desired. Just keep trying. Getting closer, but not close enough yet. On a side note, I can't decide if I may ultimately end up going with pieces of an improv of that sequence I did earlier. The footage quality isn't great, but some really interesting character choices came out of it. The section doesn't need "filmic" look or excellent quality, per se, but... well, I'll just try again next time. Ok, re-commence the sound of crickets... now
Jason
Jason Ramsey
11-04-2006, 05:24 PM
Well, I am bald as a q-tip now, and my head feels like sandpaper.
I am still screwing with some scene file settings, trying to find the best look.
I am unable to do much in the way of testing or filming this weekend, so I am just going to try to iron out this draft into a more complete, structured script tonight and tomorrow.
To be posted the early part of next week...
-Location shots from some scouting around.
-Possibly, some BTS of my setup for one scene
-Possibly, an interview with the cast and director.
Thanks,
Jason

Ok, folks. Well, it got faster as it uploaded. Started at 3k/sec and ended at 7+k/sec.
Sorry, about the quality, but I had to keep the file size small due to my 128k upload speed.
I only had a few minutes with the actor and director, but it was kind of enlightening if I say so myself :)
Hope you enjoy it. Right click and download. It is a .mov. So here you go

Anyone know why everytime I go to modify my first post in this thread, it screws up the alignment of some of the stuff. The images get slammed back to the left margin, as does a few of the lines of text that I had centered. But only a few things it does that too.

Wow...I am inspired.... opens up a whole new avenue for BTS for me! I mean the "wife" comment about you being a retard. hahaha!!!! I take a lot of joking and comments from my family (i.e. daughter) for being sort of a deaf-mute when I am working.... hahaha!!
I dont know why, but when I am working, THAT is when she wants to come in and have lengthy discussions. I hear her, I know she's talking to me, but whatever part of my brain that is resposible for making me turn around and offer my participation in the conversation is on hold. So an hour later, I'll say something in response to her and she looks at me blank...and shakes her head. :)
Jason Ramsey
11-07-2006, 10:15 AM
I have the same problem T. But, I never get to ignore a long conversation, she always wants to ask me a question every 3 minutes when I am trying to work/play :) I'd prefer the long speel.
Thanks for the comments about the BTS. On that note, I should have some location stills up sometime late afternoon (central time). It's raining here today, so they will be a bit gray:) Good for the overall mood of Drama Fest though.

I just saw your interview and that was hilarious. I loved how you made the "actor" a little shorter, nice touch. Great piece of promotion too. Maybe next time you could do a side by side split screen.

PLEASE do another interview!!!!!!! God, I loved both characters. What a hoot. I would love to see you set up the camera and shoot both sides of a conversation (then composite them together. If you do a lockdown it wouldn't be hard and would be pretty amazing because these look like TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE!!!)
Jason Ramsey
11-07-2006, 01:32 PM
I would like to try that. It would take some learning though. I understand the basic concept, but haven't begun to explore how I would composite the two together in my NLE (EDIUS), which I am new to, and didn't have much editing experience to begin with :)
Sounds like a BTS interview part II. Coming... sometime later. :) When I have something to report. Thanks for the suggestion. I may just have to try it soon. But only after I at least get a closer to finished draft on the script :) This filmmaking stuff is hard

All you do is drop the videos on top of each other and draw a mask or even do a wipe that you freeze halfway. The point is that the center of the frame is the same in both videos so they sit on top of eachother perfectly once you reveal the other one by masking or wiping half of the frame. Then its a simple matter of sliding the clips so that questions and answers seem natural (it would require good acting to appear to be responding to each other but you clearly got that talent down ....)
I do know this isn't your objective but I can't help but say how cool it would be to see both of these characters on screen talking to eachother!!!!!!

UPDATE:
I will be doing some shooting of the monologue sequence again today. Partly for testing of footage (though, I think I am getting fairly close to something I like) and to see if I can grab some decent stuff today.
Other things I am working on. A next draft of the script. I dont' anticipate the monologue sequence changing too much. It's the rest of it. Particularly the story as a whole. I am still trying to flesh it out, and get it to say what I intend it to. Make things more clear as to what is going on, etc., etc.
Also, might have a better quality version up of the first BTS interview. The interview is the same, I am just thinking about putting up a bit larger file size h.264 version, and a wmv version as well. But I may just hold off on that until the next BTS footage rolls through.

Some good news... I may have inked a very talented writer/co-writer, who will bring a fresh perspective and a bit of maturity to the story, judging from the feedback I have gotten from him so far. It's not a huge secret, as one could easily find out who I am talking about, but I may announce later, or I will let him do so himself, if he so desires.
Thanks,

P.S. I may be a bit incognito the next day or so, as I am even further in the boondocks then usual and have to deal with dial up at my parents while they spend some time with their grand-daughter. I am laughing a little bit because when we were sitting around the pool in Thermal and Brandon pitched the story it was great, but I think we went past 6 minutes before we got to the third act :) It was a captivating story and I remember I told Ted, well, when you have a story that full you have to "kill off some of your children" to make it shorter and I wouldn't want to be Brandon's group having to make those decisions. So, I don't envy you as there were so many interesting scenes that I know would be hard to give up.

Thanks, Ravin. It's not a problem. I need to do some catching up in everyone's threads. I have been a little busy.
To answer the question about the script: What Larry said. :)
Seriously, he is anticipating having a rough draft to me by the end of the week. And then we will go from there. I figure if that timetable goes as expected, then I can bounce some of my idea's/concerns, etc. off of him over the weekend, and we can get something fleshed out by the end of next week. I don't want to rush him, as I know he has his own life. Right now I don't see a need to. I would really like to get a meaty script, so that is the focus on that end of things right now.
On my end, while Larry's talents are helping to take that load off of my back, I will be doing some planning of the shooting schedule, and some general shooting tests; trying to find the look that I want for each scene. I am getting some decent looks now, I think, so that is encouraging. But this flick is my opportunity to learn about the HVX (among other things).
As far as shooting. I anticipate the bulk of it being done over two weekends. Other miscellaneous shots, will be done whenever.
Looking ahead, it would be nice to have a solid month in post, and a week beyond that for fine-tuning, final output expirementation, etc.
I would like to have some rough cuts of the flick to Leo before that time, to make sure he has adequate time to plan and get ideas. I will also send him the next draft that Larry comes up with.
So, a little long winded, but that pretty much brings you up to date.
P.S.- I may be working on some BTS rehearsal footage tomorrow as well. Look for that possibly by mid-week. First I have to film a "Christmas" video with the wife and baby tomorrow, so we can send it off to her parents in Indonesia.
Thanks for the comments,
Jason

Sounding good man, we also want at least a month of post time but it's hard trying to get people with lives to shoot during the holiday season.
Finding a look for your HVX is one of hardest parts and it will help from spending too much time in post production doing a lot of color-correcting (other than small adjustments to make shots match each other).
Keep up the good work - Jeremy

Hey, Ted - For me, the HVX has a huge learning curve. But I haven't used another camera since the Sony DCR-TRV950, which is nothing like this bad boy. It really is an amazing camera. Frustratingly amazing. It's real easy to make your footage look like crap :)
Yes, Larry has some great advice to give. I am very anxious to see what he comes up with now that he is inking the script for me. I am just letting him go from scratch and write whatever he comes up with. Then we can go from there.
It's getting exciting! Well, I have to go through some footage of the wife and baby that we shot today for her parents. She was speaking in Indonesian to them, and was apparently talking about my daughters shoes. Afterwards she was like "You didn't go down to her shoes when I was talking about them". To which I replied, how am I supposed to know what you are talking about? I don't speak Indonesian...

11-16-2006, 06:05 PM
Well, I'm glad I logged back on when I did. I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long Larry.
I shared some of my initial impressions that will be followed by more specific and in depth notes on the script with Larry just a few moments ago.
In a nutshell. As expected he has added a nice level of maturity to the structure of the story as a whole. As far as where he took the script, the structure, and the storyline in general. I was highly impressed, and I think he almost nailed it. He is right in the ballpark anyways. And he took some of my ideas that I couldn't make clear, made them his own, and elevated them. I feel like a giant leap has been taken in terms of meatiness of the overall storyline and structure. The story will elevate the situations and the dialogue without much help (in my opinion).
In terms of dialogue - that is one place that I have expressed a desire to refine. While the dialogue gets across the point, it doesn't come across to me in the more naturalistic style that I hear it. The situation is kind of extreme as it is, but I want the delivery of the story to be the opposite of that. And leaning much more to the subtle.
In short (for real this time), as a first draft I am very grateful to have it as it was delivered. I am grateful for Larry agreeing to write this thing for me, and I feel confident in the fact that we can quickly get the script to a point that I am ready to take it and start working.

From Jason's comments I feel I managed to write something that tells the story he wanted told. I'm glad about that, as that is the toughest part. Now it's just icing on the cake :)
As I mentioned in the BROKEN SHADOWS thread, I had some trouble with my muse the last couple days...but I forced myself to get out a draft of RE-BIRTH yesterday and I think mid-way through the muse started to awaken. So I have confidence that I can get a strong draft completed today.
Then, hopefully, it will just be minor tweaks next week and then on to pre-production :)

Ok. I sent my "in-depth" notes ahead to Larry a few moments ago. I hope he can understand them. I tend to be to wordy and not very descriptive :)
Anyways, I am getting quite excited and am looking forward to seeing some feedback from Larry and the next draft!

Well, I just read draft #2.
I sent some notes back to Larry. It was mostly nit picky. I am grateful to you (Larry) for your help in this. Larry has really excited me again about this project with what he has delivered. And as I told him earlier, he has re-invigorated my emotional pallette in terms of thinking about this story. I had killed it by trying to write it.
I think another small revision and I am going to have something nice in my hands that I can really run with. Then maybe some notes back and forth, here and there. From there, whether I turn it into a piece of crap or not, remains to be seen :)
Thanks Larry for your hard work!

He heh. I've done it myself. The weird thing is, sometimes I'll be typing and the submit button will be clicking itself. Then I end up with 5 messages of like one word at a time.
Anyways. Here's the update. I planned to have my notes back to Larry shortly after the 3rd draft was sent to me. But I got sidetracked at work with work! Go figure. Actually I had to train somebody on the board. Anyways, so I am now working on those notes. They aren't too many. Larry has done a great job with the script. There are just two places off the top of my head that are a little muddy, so I want to discuss them with Larry. Other than that, it's looking real nice. There are some real nice moments in there. I just hope I am able to do them justice.
Ok.

New tagline and synopsis added courtesy Larry_R (Larry Rutledge)
Tagline: Dis-Membered by hate. Re-Membered by love. Re-Born through forgiveness.
Synopsis:"RE-BIRTH" is a look into the heart of despair. His family is taken from him, and Eric is suddenly faced with how to put his life back together, or if he even wants to. When he is brought face to face with the man responsible for dismembering his life, will he remember how to be the man his family loved? Will he destroy what's left of his life? Or will he find purpose, and be truly Re-Born?
I sent my notes ahead to Larry on draft 3. Even though I think we are getting real close, somehow my notes were more extensive than prior ones??? He' gonna kill me.

Hey, thanks preston.
UPDATE: I received draft 4 from Larry. I gave it one read through and then quickly responded with my initial impressions. I will read it again here in a little while and send my 2nd set of notes back.
I will say that this draft really helped to clear up some problems with the layout and a couple of things that we agreed didn't quite make sense. That is very encouraging. Yesterday I think we may have moved a half a step closer. With this draft, I think we just moved two steps closer. My initial impressions, were that I was quite pleased. I'm still trying to decide how I feel about a couple of things script wise. I will do that here on my next read thru.
I am slightly concerned about the length of the script as a whole. But, I'm not sure how all of the pacing is going to play out yet. There is a fair amount of description in the script, so... Some of it I think will zip by faster than a page a minute. Other parts could take two minutes per page. I'm just not sure yet. I need to do some investigation into that.
That's all for now.

Hey Jason,
First of all, you've got a birthday boy on your thread here.... Happy Birthday Preston!
Now for you, man.... That sounds incredible!!! I love your tagline and synopsis!
Wow! I am so thrilled that I was able to see the "Original" story idea and to hear how it has grown. I am so excited for you.
As far as the script.... as long as it is under 15 pages, you'll be fine! (or at least I hope so for my sake!!! )
Keep it up and Keep it coming!
Ted
PS - Nice work here Larry!

Thanks Ted. Happy B-Day Preston. I'll be over at your thread in a moment.
We are looking at 10 solid pages right now, so I am not deadly concerned. I just need to figure out the pacing in my head and see how feasible the 6 min. marker is without drastic cuts.
And, yes. Larry is doing wonderful work. I wouldn't be able to do this without him. I just hope I do justice to the script when we do get to that "FInal Draft" point. Which, I think will be pretty soon.

11-21-2006, 02:09 PM
Wow! 10 pages is long. Is a lot of that description?
Jason Ramsey
11-21-2006, 02:15 PM
Kind of. I mean, some of the scenes have no dialogue within them. So they are descriptive in that sense. But there is no description of camera angles or anything like that going on. It is all description of the action, dialogue, v.o. etc. Relevant to the action of the story. It probably would be less pages in a different format, now that I think of it. 10 page pdf, though. I'm going to start thinking about it in terms of pace, now that I think we are getting close here. I don't want to have to cut too much. Because, I know what the first things to go would be, but they really add to the telling of the story.
I've asked Larry what he thinks about the length, so I am sure he will chime in on the subject sometime soon.
Jason
Larry Rutledge
11-21-2006, 02:30 PM
I just opened the PDF and it is only 9 pages of script (10 must include the title page) and the 9th/final page is only 3/4 filled.
The 1 page/min I think is more true with a longer piece as it is an overall average, not an exact figure. I am confident that these 9 pages can be comfortably cut into a beautiful 6 minute project. You'll probably have to do opening credits over action and be extremely brief with closing credits for the contest entry, but otheriwise I think it will work.
Just my $0.01 9/10 (can't afford a whole $0.02  )

And Larry. Just checked your pdf version from the ftp. It was indeed a solid 8 1/2 or 8 2/3 pages of script. That looks to be good to me. Some of this stuff is taking place simultaneously as well, but of course, it cannot be written like that on the page. I think we are in good shape time wise.
Thanks to Larry for all his hard work to this point.
Jason
One more note: We are now at 32 scene changes. That does sound like quite a lot, but I am hoping you will find that they play well with the flow of the story, and the manner that we are telling the story will be interesting and a bit of a different take from the typical linear format.

Not too much...that lazy writer of his thought he should get a break for Thanksgiving. Can you believe that? :Drogar-Angry(DBG): If I were him, I'd sit that writer down and have a long talk with him.
Seriously though, we got some good second party comments/feedback on the script and we spent the holiday letting the ideas/thoughts/comments/etc marinate in the back of our minds while the triptophan (sp?) put us to sleep :)
I think we were pretty close to a final draft before that step...this is more of a polish pass over the script (in my opinion anyway, but I'm sure that doesn't count for too much I'm just the writer :D )

Well, I've done it now. I finished the next draft a little while ago, which was supposed to be a polish draft (just tighten up the dialog, add a little tension, etc, etc). When I was done, I printed it out and it grew from a comfortable 8 pages to an uncomfortable 11 pages http://www.nrestudios.com/images/smilies/emote_22_yikes.gif
The worst part is, after letting it sit unread for a couple hours, I just picked it up and read it...and I like all of it :crybaby: Now, what am I supposed to do? Jason's not going to be happy when he finds out http://www.nrestudios.com/images/smilies/emote_hanged.gif

Jason Ramsey
11-28-2006, 10:53 AM
Ok. Here it is. Read it. It is 10 pages, plus a few lines on the 11th.
But here is the deal. I think a page of that is added v.o. that is occuring over pre-existing action, and some parts of scenes that replaced something else, but is more descriptive in nature. But the pacing of it, and the tension seemed much better. I felt like we got into the story quickly this time. I felt like by the time we were hitting the climax things were just clipping along. The tension was building, and he added some nice moments that helped to clarify.
By the time we hit the climax, he followed that up with a nice moment of suspense and quickly into a much clearer denoument(I think I spelled that wrong)
Anyways, I saw some places along the way this time that were redundant or unessecary. We were seeing things happen that didn't have bearing on the main action. I think trim out a bit of the repetitive dialogue, make it more precise, and let go of the fat in the action, and we are right back where we were time wise, and possibly a bit better. And with a better story, at that!
It was a great draft. I was worried, but I think we are pretty much there. I would like for Larry to just make some of those trims and get it really tight, but other than that, the work with the story is at a place that I can comfortably call it done, and ready to move beyond the writing phase.
It's always hard to let go and move to the next phase in the arts, but eventually you have to. And this was a great revision. Thanks, Larry!

It's great. There are only a few minor cuts I suggested on lines. It is 9 now. Should be 8 and a half after those cuts are incorporated. Which will put us right back where we were timewise. Maybe even a little better.

An offtopic update about something that is exciting for the family:
The wife got her appointment to go get her biometrics done. We have to be in Birmingham at 8am on Wednesday.
What this means is, she is close to getting her work permit, and things are moving along as scheduled. We will still be looking for a long wait for the Permanant Residency status, but at least she will be able to legally work in this country, and we should be able to use her work permit as a temporary green card. Meaning that she can get back into school and pay in-state tuition, rather than the outrageous fees she was paying before. Once we can afford that, she can go back and finish up her Master's Degree.
This is all very exciting to us, so I just wanted to pass it along. She's got an accounting degree already, so she can get a decent job if she chooses to work full-time. Or if she wants to work part-time anywhere, and stay with the baby. The great thing is the freedom. The options. My wife will be able to work within the next month or two!

I'm going out of town for a couple of days for the USCIS stuff, I was talking about.
Shooting is planned for this weekend and monday. I will be shooting two main scenes over those days. That will be about 70-75% of the script. There is one other "main" scene, and about 4-5 smaller ones that will also need to be shot. Planning for those is not set yet, but probably over the next 3 weeks. I want to be done shooting by the end of December. Hopefuly by Christmas.

Non Drama-Fest Update:
I'm pissed off.
So, I'm sitting here in a hotel in Birmingham for an 8am immigration appointment for my wife tomorrow.
I sit down, log on to DVXUser, check my email. We have an email from our immigration lawyer. Attached is a form stating that my wife has to get a physical from a civil surgeon and has to get documentation of having received certain vaccinations, etc. (This we knew) What we didn't know is that immigration will not proceed with her applications at all until they receive this information, which will cost us another 400 dollars. We were told by our lawyer, that it would be something we would be able to bring (sealed) with us to our interview which will be in 6 months to a year (this is for her adjustment of status to permanant resident). We were told that the physical has absolutely no bearing and is not a requirement for her work permit.
This form says that she is unable to receive any kind of work authorization, nor will they begin processing any of that information until 90 days after they receive the sealed documentation requested from an authorized civil surgeon. So now, instead of her having her work permit within the next two months, and us being on our way down the long road to her adjustment of status... We are now looking at a minimum of 4 months before her work permit or any of her immigration forms will even begin being processed.
Why am I pissed. Because you pay a lawyer 2k because they are supposed to know these things. You pay a lawyer 2k because they are supposed to make sure every piece of information is there, and every form is filled out to a tee. If it isn't you have to start the immigration process all over again, and you have to pay the 1k in filing fees to the government all over again.
This is why you pay a lawyer. What have I gotten for my 2k that we didn't have in the first place. I could have screwed it up myself! And saved 2k!!
Why is it that a guy on a terrorist watch list can become a U.S. citizen and end up working for the C.I.A. and my wife, who is one of the hardest working, devoted people out there, with more education than 80 percent of people in this country has to deal with this? Maybe I shoulda left the last part off. Ah, well.
Anyways, that's my rant for the night.
The internet is very fast here at the super motel 8, by the way :)
