Very Brief Synopsis:
A young woman called Erica is going through the recent events in her life with her analyst.
Production Notes
- This movie will be shot with a DVX100A
- Editing with Adobe Premiere 2.0 & Sony Vegas 7.0
- We will be using our own custom made Dolly
- We're thinking of building a director as well but Stratos and myself will do for now I guess
- SHOOTING DATES: December 9th/10th (weekend) & November 26th
- There are 6 locations for this movie.
- Right now, there is also a breakdown of 13 scenes. However half of these take place in one of the locations which is the analyst's office.
- All scenes take place during the day (cunning little ba$tards we are)
- Steve_Arm will be participating in this. He will be helping out during shooting and he will also do any vfx that we might need and CC, credits etc.
- Music again will be delivered by my brother Jimmy.
- This movie IS R rated.
- Vasso Partali who will be playing our lead character, Erica, is an amateur actress. She's been taking acting lessons for the past year and she is currently performing on stage on her 2nd play. We are very excited to have her on board because she is very dedicated and willing to help.
Locations
These 2 are going to be the Analyst's office. It's deneb79's new place so we have the opportunity to use it as we see fit since he wont be having much furniture and we will be able to set it up nicely. It also has a big balcony door and lots of light coming in.

http://www.c2tc-movies.com/myHIV/Analyst2thumb.jpg (http://www.c2tc-movies.com/myHIV/Analyst2.jpg)
This one is actually my bedroom and I will use it for 2 scenes. It's going to be the Stranger's appartment and again, there will be the necessary setup and decoration to fit the script.
http://www.c2tc-movies.com/myHIV/DeltasRoom1thumb.jpg (http://www.c2tc-movies.com/myHIV/DeltasRoom1.jpg)
This one here is the location for another outdoors scene. It's actually the front door of deneb79's new building.
http://www.c2tc-movies.com/myHIV/Friends2thumb.jpg (http://www.c2tc-movies.com/myHIV/friends2.jpg)
This is a very nice park that we will use for another scene.

THE CONTEST IS OVER!!!!!!!!!!
In the past few days we ran a contest where we asked you to find the hidden meaning behind the title of our movie 'my Heart Is Vain'.
Even though there was a 2 weeks deadline, seems like especially the 'Threading The Needle' crew is not working very hard on their project as they both found the correct answer, along with Ramjet of Re-Birth and Steve_Arm.
The prize if we can call it that, is this: these 4 guys will be shown in our movie, as a part of a poster that will be in various places around Athens. The poster will be about an upcoming concert by the band 'the dvxUsers' and it will have the picture of each of them.
The lineup is the following:
Singer/Guitars : Ramjet [UNFORTUNATELY JASON DIDN'T SEND HIS PHOTO IN TIME SO IT'S ONLY THE OTHER 3 GUYS]
Bass: Ted Arabian
Drums: Steve_Arm
Keyboards: Mark Johnson

This is 99% our final title for our entry. I had a basic story to tell but this morning I decided to change a lot of it, keep the basic stuff and the characters but make it more straightforward and movie-like.
It has a girl called Erica (would you believe it?) as a main character.
That's all for now.
Give me an E!
Give me an X!
Give me a C!
Give me an I!
Give me a T!

Our first kick-off meeting with Stratos went exceptionally well!
We have established some ground basis for our story, locations, shots and cast.
I will be refining the script this week according to what we discussed and start working on storyboards as well.
I hope that by mid-November we will have our cast.
So far we have 6 locations. 4 outdoors / 2 indoors
The cast has the lead actress (Erica), a lead actor (Analyst) and 5 more people. There will also be voice over again (LOL!!!), sorry but can't seem to be able to write something without the damn VO.
We have some great ideas about shooting this one. We'll try to focus on acting and cinematography this time. We are definitely very optimistic about our story/script.
Shooting days:
December 2/3
December 9/10
December 16/17
These are weekends, not sure about doing all 3 but we just put them up to be sure coz the weather might give us a hard time.
The most challenging part will be getting a real actress to play the lead, the rest can be handled easily by friends and I will try and get my hands on some friends of my brother who work on radio and know how to act on a microphone as they do lots of commercials and jiggles.
So far so good!

Here I am as well...
As John said earlier, we had a meeting last night and discussed about all the essential thing regarding this movie.
(He just messaged me that a new version of the script is ready to be read and discussed ).
I am happy because we have started working on our organisational flaws that have haunted our filmmaking attempts since the beginning. Yes, we will get anxious, I have no doubt about that, I just want to know that everything goes along with our timeline and, for the first time, not start feeling pressure as the deadline comes closer.
Regarding our story, I think this will be told in a very straightforward way, with not so much "poetic" writing. We have a lot of filming locations and the fact that I will be moving to a new apartment very soon really helps because we are going to have empty rooms to decorate as we like... :)
I just hope we will find a good actress for the main part because it will be really demanding and will give a great feeling to the overall movie. As I read the script I knew that there are scenes that a single look or some good acting would make the differences. I believe that drama movies are about 50% story and 50% acting...
So, let the producing/directing/acting/fun begins once again and I would like to thank everyone who did or will check out this thread and share their thoughts... :dankk2:

We have decided to make a little contest. Here is the deal.
Four of you, I say again, FOUR (4) of you will get the chance to star in our little movie ‘my Heart Is Vain’.
How? At some points in the movie there will be a close up shot of a poster. The poster is about a concert that is to take place in Athens. The band? THE DVXUSERS. The faces of the band on the poster? YOURS!
We need a maximum number of 4 faces to put there, but we can do with 3, 2 or 1 according to how the contest goes. That is, if only 1 or 2 or 3 people get the right answer, we just do the poster with them. But 4 is the maximum, the first 4 who answer correctly.
What to do? You have 2 weeks, that is by the 15th of November (WEDNESDAY) this contest will be ON. All you have to do is SEND ME A PRIVATE MESSAGE, I REPEAT, A PRIVATE MESSAGE, with the answer to this question:
‘WHAT IS THE HIDDEN MEANING OF THE TITLE OF THIS MOVIE?’
If in 1 week we only have 1 or 2 winners, I will post a hint to make life easier on you on the 8th (one week from now).
On the 16th I will reveal the names of the winners who will be careful not to disclose their correct answer to anyone on this forum.
The winners then will be asked to email us with a photo of a close-up of them, we don’t care if you wear a hat, glasses, fake beard, a thong on your head or whatever. We just need a GOOD QUALITY, highest possible, of a closeup AND the name under which you want to appear. The band will have a name but we can put each person’s name on the poster as well.
So. To revise:
a)Deadline is the 15th of November
b)Question: “What is the hidden meaning of the title of this movie?”
c)Be extremely discreet with your answers!
d)Good luck to you all!

Guys, I have made Ramjet a Singer/Guitarist, and put Ted on bass, so that we can have a better instrument-wise band.
I will be PMing you in the next few hours with details on the photos I want from you.
There'll be a lot of photoshoping since we want a metal-80s-poser approach, so get ready to see yourselves with some seriously-lame hairdos.

not another UPDATE
Last night we had our second meeting with deneb79. We have a final script version that we're really comfortable with, maybe along the way we refine some dialogue but 90% of it will remain as is.
Today deneb79 will be taking some photos of some locations that we have in mind and I will do the same as well.
We have also decided to break our script to scenes, it consists of 13 (is this a bad sign?) scenes and we will be working on each one separately to plan it with as much detail as possible. We're not really experienced with planning so this may not be the 'right' way, but it makes us feel secure about our shooting days when they arrive.
We might have a problem casting our lead after all....but I try not to think about it....
In the next few weeks we will be doing lots of camera setups and tests because we have some shots in the script that we havent done before so we need to check them out beforehand, and also work on the use of boom pole (we made one ourselves) as we havent used on before as well.
So a lot of ground to cover but we're really excited.

LOTS OF UPDATE NEWS
a) We found our leading lady!!!! Her name is Vasso Partali, she is an amateur actress, this year she's doing her second stage play so she has more experience than anyone we've ever used (that means ourselves). She is really dedicated in this and we're lucky because for our shooting days she will be available.
b) I posted some location photos. Actually from all 6 locations, there is only one that we havent yet found. It's going to be a bit tricky but since I will have my bike in a couple of days, I will be able to do some scouting myself.
ps. I sat down today and started watching again Twin Peaks (the series). It's been more than 12 years since I first saw it and I had completely forgotten how amazing it is. It also made me realise that I love dramatic scenes that dont involve too much dialogue but let the pictures speak and the 'mute' acting let's say. It gave me a lot to think about my project as well. PROPS on mr. Lynch for doing something really beautiful and powerful and emotional. And props on ms. Fenn for being such a teaser.

Thanx very much Kyle for the comments about me. I dont try to be something or someone in here, I am always being honest and myself. Maybe it's because I love moviemaking and feel that I can connect to most of you guys that I get to be so involved in this forum.
As for the buildings, well you should come and live in Athens coz we're packed with these appartment buildings, its like a greek thing. I understand that you may not be accustomed to seeing these in the states or in Europe, especially buildings with balconies so big are not so common but still I could show you much better looking than this one. Anyway, I guess Stratos (deneb79) will be pleased that you like his new neighbourhood and place.

Oh, I believe that Mark answered your question about my first visit here. It is a combo of some shots that will make the final cut, but this visit is a location scouting/actor aquiring/contact making/pre-production meeting. And a great one at that!

Hey Brice, thanx! Well this is the first time we've done such a serious pre-production and we're still in finalising script/location scouting so we have a lot to do in the next few weeks.
But its so promising.....at least we can hope for something much much better than our previous 2 entries and that is of course a good thing, moving up.

I have to say something here.
All this time that I'm writing and re-writing my script and planning the shots on paper and in my head....I cant but feel absolutely excited and cant wait for our shooting days to come. I have never felt that before because to be honest we never had such a well planned preproduction. Knowing what I have to shoot, how to shoot it and having actors this time with dialogue and so much interaction....its thrilling but terrifying as well.
I cant wait to reach mid-December so I can start editing this and see that it all went well.
ps. I will post in a few hours our latest poster for The Door Between, Stratos (deneb) made what I think is a great poster for this movie that we will use as cover for the DVD as well and for future releases.

My only comment would be that, from a morphology standpoint, the figure standing in the doorway is very short. It appears his legs are truncated. Unless this is a film featuring a short guy I would recommend making him taller for dramatic license.

Well, I like it but I have to agree... the first thing that I noticed was that the image seems to have been chopped at the legs.
John, you say that is Stratos but are you sure that someone didn't cut off a portion of the legs in photoshop or something?
Actually, I just took a much closer look. I think that it is an optical illusion and the legs just appear short. BUT you may want to (pardon me) photoshop the seat of the pants. Just draw the white line coming up between the legs a bit higher. This will give the illusion of longer legs. It looks like the legs "melded" together too soon before reaching the seat of his pants anyways.

I need to get together with my lead pretty soon to discuss about the part. Need also to check up on all the others to make sure they understand their part and what will be asked of them.
Another thing, I started writting lyrics for a few songs I want to add to this film. I've written a song so far (lyrics) that I will be sending my brother so he can start working on it. Maybe I ll sing who knows....lol....

We ditched the Dad/Mom characters from the script. The scene where they appeared remains but the part where they had a bit of action was dropped coz it didn't really serve any purpose and it actually made things more complex in terms of what I want to tell the viewer.

UPDATE - LYRICS OF MOVIE SONG
Self- Inflicted
Take me in my safe place
We are here and share this pain
And you see the trouble in my brain
In my body, in my veins
Where it happens, where it leads
I’m unbroken, I’m not real
My decisions left me bare
And my people, they don’t care
Self-inflicted wounds I heal
Trying to punch this card and leave
Self-inflicted wounds I heal
But our time does not stand still
Left to my own little space
Curling up, hugging my face
Put the misery back on the shelf
Serve me with your dear old self
Love me like you always did
Before he spread me with disease
Days and nights, seem to go on and on
Thousand lights inside my phone
Tearing through my clothes and skin
Clutching on my breasts they scream
I am not who I used to be
Self-inflicted wounds I heal
Threw my heart out of this dream
Self-inflicted wounds don’t heal
My existence out of steam
Mark Johnson
11-07-2006, 11:15 PM

Hey Hey, Beer Conversation!
As Versus said, I have a wide collection of beer bottles, cans and general stuff regarding beer, but the best part is that I have tried most of them (we are talking about 300-350 different labels here... honestly) so I have a good opinion about those who have made an impression (good or bad).
As about most things in this life, I think there is not a global Top 10 in beers... My favorite ones are ales, trappists (especially La Trappe Quadrule and Kastel) and weissebiers (white beers - good example: Hoegaarden)... I despise 'fruit beers' with fruitty flavours.
Another good beer database is the following:
http://www.bottledbeer.co.uk/
Anyone interested in beers and would like to exchange knowledge or even real beer bottles pls PM me... :dankk2:
P/S: Since this is a filmmaking forum as well, I have to say that today we will have our first meeting with our lead actress....

John, the beer discussion ROCKS!!!!! My old roomie and I occasionally make our own beer and hold a famous beer-tasting party. Alas, the last time we did was at the outset of the Afghanistan war (we called our brew B52 Ale). You have inspired me to call old Marcus and start planning a new party.

I am extremely proud and excited to announce that Mr. A Lugrec has joined our production!!!
Mr. A Lugrec is a very experienced production assistant. He has been working for as long as I can remember, a very trustworthy asset in everyone’s job.
Mr. A Lugrec may be a bit ‘rusty’ since he hasn’t been working hard these past few months, but after our heart-to-heart conversation, mutual promises were made about a very hard working and honest collaboration.
With Mr. A Lugrec on board, there will be some amazing shots delivered that will blow our production value over the roof.

UPDATE
We started doing our storyboards/shot lists yesterday. Man, that is some exhausting procedure!!!
We also had our first meeting with our lead actress! She is very positive about all this, she is a stage actor and hadnt had a tv/film experience so far so she is really eager in working with us. She liked the story and Erica's character so that is always a good thing. And she is really willing to work hard.
We also discussed about doing rehearsals this Friday (& weekend) and since she has a lot of free time in November, we started talking about starting shooting earlier if we are ready with our shot lists and locations/setups.
So...good stuff happening I guess....

Whoa! How many days do you plan on filming?
We have a schedule for 4 days shooting. To be honest....if we were a bigger crew or had more experience, it could be done in 2 days but we want to be on the safe side and we have 5-6 scenes outdoors so we dont know how the weather will turn out to be...
HOWEVER, in our meeting last night with our lead, she told us she is quite free this month so we MIGHT do a few scenes that involve just her in a couple of weeks and get a good head start..
Our top priority right now is to finish our storyboards and we ll have to visit our locations again coz I havent seen some of them so dont really know if a dolly can move there or if i could get a wide shot someplace else...you know...so i hope all this is covered in the next 5-6 days, we do our first rehearsals this weekend and then we see...
ps. half the scenes take place in one room and we will be using deneb's new flat for that but he hasnt moved in yet, still getting furniture and all so this is a thing as well that we have to wait for...anyway...it definitely looks MUCH MUCH better than anything we ever done before so if we screw this, it will be our own fault, lol

well...it seems like a big number of shots...but i dont think they re that many....i dont know...maybe we re doing something wrong....
and by the way...its like 13 scenes,103 shots...around 8shots per scene...so its hot that big a deal....well actually it is, if you take into consideration that 6 scenes take place on the same location...so you have like...50 shots in one place, in one day....hahahahaha....dont let Stratos read this...
Brandon Rice
11-13-2006, 10:54 AM
I think you'll be fine... in Smuggler's we had about 65 shots each day during principle (4 days) so that averages out to roughly 260 shots in 4 days. (all 8 hr. days except one 10 hr. day)

Dedicated DP? ......
Grip CREW? not a grip guy, but a crew???
DP issues : we work them out with deneb....that means....you know what that means
Grip Crew: well no lights for this one again, we will be using sunlight and house lighting but we made the script this way to help us, for dolly, everybody is doing some gripping hahahahaha...

for now lets just say that since i ve never studied filmmaking or anything like that, i have no ties or liaisons with pros or students
people who help/work with me are friends and family and only my brother is a professional in sound/music but has never done tv or films except for my projects
i dont even have friends who are in the field
going about banging on doors asking for collaboration is harder here because there arent so many people doing what you do and the way you do it, people here feel so 'pro' in their own little arrogant heads that even a suggestion of working in a no budget no experience short about a forum etc etc would be welcomed with bitter laughter...
this is another reason why i m considering moving to the states in a couple of years
anyway...i m off to continue my beautiful voyage in the world of meredith gray('s anatomy)

Thanx Jason for checking up on us!
Not using artificial lighting is not exactly a creative choice, its a one way road coz we still havent picked up any lights for our equipment and then I started rewriting this script and from the original version it took place during the day in outdoors locations...so one thing let to the other and we are going this natural lighting way.
To be honest...we dont know if its going to work but we ll sure try.

MAJOR UPDATE
The HVX has been secured and John will be transfered to the studio for filming the vfx scene in a special secured cage so he won't touch it while he will be administered by me with high dosages of Tranquillisers so he can remain calm around the HVX. The cage is being build at this time with first class titanium steel and can accomodateonly one person in it. So I'm pretty sure the HVX will be "secure".
