No way, Smuggler's should be done in the next 3-4 weeks. I'll begin work on this project soon after.

Well if, once you watch, you like the story...then yea, I signed on as writer. Otherwise, I don't know who wrote that stinkin' pile of trash
I'm excited about this opportunity to work with Brandon. I have had the pleasure to put in my 2 cents on some of his other projects, including Smuggler's Ransom, and I think this will be a great opportunity to work together on the next level.
Peace,
Larry

Virum, you say your script was just over 6 pages long, can you estimate what ratio of dialog to action you had in your script? I'm just curious as I'll have to try and keep this story under 7 pages and I can see this story easily growing to 15 or 20 pages while still being lean.
Peace,

If you use Final Draft you can do script reports (I think that is what it's called) that can only show the action and dialogue. The theory of 1 minute per page is based on a script with only action and dialogue. Walter Murch times how long it takes to read it through to get a gauge. So in theory you could read a little slower for a part that might require a slow dolly shot and read fast for action sequences... maybe.?.?.

How do you end up with these name actors, man? B-Man's got connections
If you're referring to Patrick, we have a mutual friend and have as of late been working on a little bit together, he's a great singer too, and is the vocalist in the end credits song for Smuggler's Ransom :)

Cool. And Anthony Tyler Quinn as well???? It's great man, but I'm jealous :) ke hee. I saw Patrick in a movie on the Disney channel. The one with "Malcom" who was doing the soap-box derby. Other stuff too, but that's all I can think of at the moment.
Anyways, very cool man. Looking forward to it.

UPDATE: New banner :)
Larry Rutledge
11-01-2006, 03:33 PM
Well, the treatment is done. Brandon seemed pleased with it, only had one change which was implemented this morning.
Started playing around with opening sequences, trying to get the right flow. Also trying to plan out the right balance of story so we can fit it into 6 minutes (I think the first draft is going to be considerably longer).
Planning to have 1st draft done by Monday, November 6.
This is a fun project and I'm looking forward to hearing what everyone thinks about it when they see it.
Peace,
Larry

Sent the first few pages of the script to Brandon to make sure I was on the right track with his vision. I was pleasantly surprised with his reaction, he loved it.
So, back to the cave...must keep writing. If someone remembers, could you slide a piece of pizza or two under the door, Brandon won't let me out to eat.
I am having a lot of fun with this script. It is nerve wracking, for me, to write something and then subject it for public opinion. But so far, Brandon's reaction has caused me to relax and I anticipate a burst of creativity to drive me quickly to the end.
Peace,
Larry

Isara is my homepage, but i dont have a clue how it helps the needy, how does it?
It works by increasing traffic. The more traffic that comes to the site, the more advertising they can secure. The more advertising they secure means more money for their many projects. So by having it as your home page, every time you open your web browser, or click "Home", you increase the potential ISARA income.
This link tells all about it: http://www.isara.com/content/view/15/167/
And no pizza, it makes your mind work differently after you eat it. Yes...o.0
Only in dreams and I never write in my sleep....ok, actually, I don't know if I write in my sleep or not, but I haven't seen any proof of it yet. :)

Well, I just popped out for a quick bite of pizza and a fresh Pepsi. Hopefully I can get back to the script before Brandon notices I've "stepped away" (he's a slave driver I tell you  )
Seriously, though, I sent the first few pages to Brandon yesterday afternoon, just for a sanity check. He seemed very pleased with them, which was great news to me. I wanted to make sure I was capturing his vision, as the concept was his originally.
My plan now is to get draft one completed today which will give Brandon the weekend to review and come up with notes for the next revision. Hopefully by mid-week we'll have a locked draft. :keeping-fingers-crossed-smilie:
Peace,

A quick script update...the first draft is about 80% complete. I had originally planned to complete the first draft Friday, but my muse went to sleep mid-afternoon. Fortunately, he is starting to re-awaken now and ideas are beginning to flow.
Draft 1 will be complete mid-day Monday. Then its on to notes and re-writes :)

What is his view on this? Is he involved because you're his brother or is it coz he really finds it interesting? I am asking coz I always wanted to know what goes on in the minds of kids who act, is it just a fun ride or do they see more to this, like we do sometimes....
Brandon Rice
11-06-2006, 12:48 AM
Haha. I told him he's in it, and he's like, COOL! Really, he's just happy to be able to see what his Big brother does :) I don't think he'll ever seriously pursue it... he's more of a braniac, and he'll probably be a rocket scientist someday, but he enjoys it and has fun being a part of it now :)
VersuS
11-06-2006, 12:57 AM
Cool! It's nice to have him then. My brother as you know, is also an enormous help to our projects and is talented etc etc but he is not always so motivated. For example, I have made a small trailer for Love Is... and have given it to him to compose a 30secs tune and he still hasnt done it, I'm talking about 3 weeks here. He is always not in the mood. Yet when we were finishing up The Door Between he spent 2 full days doing the sound and score. Maybe I should buy a whip or something to motivate him.

Brandon, I could totally use your little bro right now. I'm shooting a movie in early december and I need a young kid asap. So far, I've yet to see anyone who could play the role but I know your lil bro could based off what I saw in your horrorfest entry. Argh, I should be in LA not Chicago.

It's a strong premise, that I'll especially be interested to read again after you've got it so it'll pace out for the six minute limit.
Brandon Rice
11-06-2006, 04:51 PM
Thanks Norm! I am not totally sure how we're going to get this to 6 min. We'll see. It's a strong enough story for me to just make it the length I feel it requires, and leave it as an exhibition piece. But at the same time, I know Larry and I both want to have something for competition in the fest. :)
Larry Rutledge
11-06-2006, 05:22 PM
Thanks Norm, though if I incorporate all the stuff you want it'll be a feature film!!
Just kidding  Great notes Norm, gave me a lot to think about for the revisions.
And, yes, we would like to have a competing piece, but if we decide we can't tell the story adequately enough within the timeframe then we'll pull a STRICKEN and enter a longer, exhibition only piece.

Funny. I'm not sure where I could classify myself with that one, since I started writing first before directing, but now typically have others that I KNOW can write better than me do it instead. Maybe once I figure it out, I'll have someone else direct for me as well. That'll put me back to Producer only, which is what I had kind of started out (after writing) thinking I would do.

The thing that I love about filmmaking is that it requires so many talents to make a film. And the better you are equipt in all facets, the more likely you are to produce something spectacular. Not that you are the one to pull off all of the tasks but that you are in-tuned with each department.
