This is ridiculous, but I'm going to shoot a short film on Monday and I realize my version of Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 doesn't work with the HVX or the P2 cards, as pretty much all of you must know. Is there any other way to take a look at these files while in the field? Quicktime? An FCP conversion? Prayer? We'll be dumping onto a G4 Powerbook 1.5 Ghz and backing up on a 1000gb HD. Any help you guys can throw out would be tremendous.
The reason I can't just update my FCP is that I'd have to mail in my info., wait for a reply from apple, etc. Not exactly something that can be done on a weekend.

Nothing free.. Get a PC and the viewer software for free. Or there is some program that you can buy called P2 LOG and some others that I dont know of ..

Get a PC notebook (or even a desk top if you have the room) and grab a copy of DVRack 2.0 HD. That will give you a great set of tools and a capture solution to boot. They offer a 10 or 15 day fully functional trial version on their website.

does FCP 5.0.4 work with the hvx or p2 cards?

Yes, 5.0.4 works with both. There are significant updates in later versions, 5.1.2 is the one you want, but 5.0.4 does work.

Many thanks, gang. Hopefully one of these pc ideas is going to work. Otherwise, I might as well be shooting Super 8.
Also, with the P2 Import window upgraded in FCP 5.1.2, P2 Log and P2 Genie are pretty much obsolete. You can even pick and chose which audio channels to import and which to ignore.
Plus, for the upgrade price you'd pay to get up to day with FCP 5.1, it's a bargain. The additional stuff, enhancements between HD and 5.1 is just incredible. You'd be very happy with it once you upgraded.
