Does the MPEG-2 file I want to burn to DVD HAVE to be 480x720, or can I keep it at 720x1280? My encoder allows me to do this, I'm just wondering if it will play on a standard dvd player?

It needs to be 720x480 to play on an NTSC system...sorry. :)

If you want it to play on a regular DVD player, it has to be 720x480.

There are a few players out there that can play high-def resolution DVDs, but those are in no way standardized yet and very few people have them. If your plan is to make a DVD that anyone can buy and play, you'd need to go 720x480.

If you want to do high-def, you could author it as a Windows Media 9 WMV-HD DVD; that will burn to a regular DVD-R and can be played in any Windows PC. Just not on a regular DVD player.
