Hello again everyone,

I just finished up my short, one-minute teaser trailer for my film, and I am trying to export the project into a Quicktime file for (1) showcasing on websites like myspace and youtube, and (2) eventually to DVD. I'm not sure if I've got the proper settings for doing so, since the video is coming out stretched vertically. How do I get the .mov file to display the film in the 16:9 format it was shot in? Any help and shedding of light on this aspect of postproduction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,
Trigonis

What NLE did you cut this on?

Did you set the PAR correctly for the project prior to exporting your .mov?

The PAR should have been set fine. I basically used the Easy Setup. Is there any other reason the .mov file should be stretching?

DVCPro HD is inherently an Anamorphic codec. Quicktime recognizes this and displays it unsqueezed. When you convert it to something other than DVCProHD, it will revert to an squeezed. FCP also displays the footage unsqueezed. When exporting, you can force the settings like size to be the correct aspect ratio.

Which comes back to a question I asked in another thread:

"This becomes one of my lingering questions.
Are we capturing 1920x1080 or 1440x1080, and 1280x720 or 960x720.

There are display discrepancies between QT, FCP, Photoshop and Shake regarding this.

And FCP will accept a QT either 960x720 or 1280x720 and neither will require rendering in a 720 50P timeline.

What throws it for me is that DVCProHD should be a square pixel format, so I don't understand where the anamorphic aspect comes in, which normally displays rectangular pixels.

It's not a major issue, but I'd love a solid answer.

Slightly confused too"

If you are using compressor, do a custom set up and make sure that you check the widescreen option. Save it and there you go. You can make it any 16 x 9 size you want to.
