I am sorry.
I hear that it reports, it exists from the manufacturer, and the
release date of XH A1 changed to 11/1.
Please acknowledge it humbly.

My best regards.

Ok so I got this today. Havent called them, doesnt seem much point but the delay is at the manufacturer so I would imagine this effects everyone. The manufacturer being in Japan, so I guess that means about 10 days later in the US and other places.

hmmm, I pre-ordered and if I don't get it before Nov 9th, I don't get it for a few months!

That would suck, I'd have to cancel my pre-order.

Hopefully they'll get through customs fast.

This delay makes me worry though, was something wrong with the first batch? It could be something huge like ois not working, or it could be something tiny like the owners manuals were missing a page.

I just wrote to tapeworkstexas.com to see if they have any info about when they'll get it now.

11/1.. does that mean January 11th or November 1st?

Maybe they are adding some great features last minute, like EVF/image flip... :-)

I just got word back from my retailer (tapeworkstexas.com: they're bad@$$)

Word is that this rumor isn't true on their end, they just spoke with their Canon rep and their pre-orders are still a go for the 25th.

I'm guessing that ncje ordered from someone who didn't secure an early quantity.

Also bog~ the H1 has an evf flip function, I don't see why they'd work to remove it from the software setup. They share the same menus, the A1/G1 both most likely have the same EVF flip as the H1.

Peace out. (So glad I'm still getting mine by the end of the month!)

Canon doesn't play around with release dates like other manufacturers do.

Thanks for confirming that, Meta4. I'm looking into using your texas people for the A1 purchase. =D

Howdy to all! I just wanted to follow up on Meta4's post about the A1 camera. There are still cams available out in Texas, however, they will not be the ones that are shipping on the 25th. Their next allotment of cams will be shipping from Canon on the 31st, arriving in Texas about 3-5 days later.

So...if you are still trying to get in on this initial shipment from Canon you can talk to Jason out there and he would be more than happy to give you the skinny.

Thanks

Oh man, I hope you're right. EVF flip in H1 is very limited and does not work with standard lenses attached. I think it was designed for adapters or lenses which were not released yet, definitely not for Mini35 because that piece of equipment already flips the image, but for sweet $10k.

That's why I hope flip function is implemented in XH cams like it should be.

Sorry mate 25th wasnt even the first date in Japan... you wont get it then .. its a shame but reality. The hold up is in Japan, my retailer is an authorised dealer in Tokyo and now matter how you cut it will get the cam before the US. The company I ordered from has one in store as we speak... I have no time to get there unfortunately.

I would re-read surfsup's post, sounds pretty well informed of shipments...

Good luck. Any chance it's just the Japanese version getting slowed?

Either way, I don't feel you have solid enough information to go and start blazing rumors here. I'm sure everyone who pre-ordered can check with their own retailer and find out the truth. Mine has promised me a delivery around two weeks from now. I'm sure you hope I'm right.

Not sure what you mean there, just trying to pass on whats going on in Japan. The Japanese and US versions are the same NTSC model only the packaging will differ.

Keeping in mind many retailers said three weeks ago that people would have the cam now. If the info I have is not what you want to hear, I can certainly see why, but I would suggest its fairly solid. I would also go as far to state that the US retailers are not 100% of any small delay at this point.

Id be happy if we all got the cam tomorrow on the same day then we can all go out and shoot something and post it up, compare performance notes etc.

meta4

How does this not say anything?

Just received an email at 7:15pm local time from the merchant asking me to call and verify the order (XH A1). The merchant is a large national brick and mortar chain with stores in my town. The call center lines are said to be answered 24 hours a day, so I called the 1-800 number at 9:00pm local. It was answered by an agent, I gave my order number, bill and ship to address. I did not have to give out my credit card number again, so I know it is legitimate. When I placed the order with this merchant, they confirmed their policy as posted on the website that they do not charge the credit card until they are ready to ship. But the agent said they are ready to ship. They are contacting the credit card company for verification with which I made prearrangements. The agent said the merchandise will ship Monday, October 21st. The release date I thought is not until October 25, but...Monday is what I am told. I specified next day air on the order so if true, Tuesday will be the day. If I don't receive a tracking number by Monday, in fact I will call 1-800 number again to confirm or deny...fingers crossed.

Emanuel

Monday is October 23rd. BTW, change the thread's title. I can't believe how it's possible to have this one when the news are quite the opposite!

meta4

Tom updated his post, looks like it might be delayed. Still speculation, but the fact is his didn't ship today like he was told it would. This could be a huge problem for me...*grief*

Yeah, I just never trust rumors, nobody should. But yes, sometimes rumors do infact turn out to be true. Here's the truth I got from Canon:

Dear Mr. *******:

Thank you for writing to us. We value you as a Canon customer and
appreciate the opportunity to assist you with available information on
the XH A1 camcorder.

We have been informed the estimated ship date to Canon Authorized
Dealers is Oct. 30, 2006 instead of today. We apologize for any
inconvenience this may cause.

We hope this information is helpful to you. Please feel free to contact
us again if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thank you for choosing Canon.

Sincerely,

*****
Technical Support Representative

I sent for and received this from Canon support. They're gonna be late, but only a few days late. Let's see how fast customs can get them through.

I ordered mine through B&H a couple of weeks ago... wondering when I will receive mine? I went ahead and preordered knowing this was pretty much the camera for me. I have been using Canon since 2000 but have never made the switch from SD to HD. I do hope that I will have that A1 in my grubby hands sometime in the next two weeks... then it's on to various places all over Arizona for some shots to post links to for all to see.

*says a prayer for Canon (B&H) to ship quickly.*

What exactly does Ship to dealers on 30th mean, dealers will have them that day? They will be sent that day? From where? (Meant as a question to Canon on the vagueness of their email to meta4).

Anyway as I said in my initial post the delay reported to me was only ever a few days. I didnt start this thread as a RUMOUR.... the info was second hand but I trust my dealer to tell me the truth and as they are very close to Canon here I trust what they are telling me. The thread was merely intended as a warning to some that may be expecting their cam on a particular date to be used on a job or to be taken on travel. As it turns out, as expected, the info I was given was correct.

Believe me it would just as easy to withhold any information I get and not have to cop a bashing along the way.

In case you didn't catch my sarcasm, ncje, I'm on your side. I think being in Japan makes your sources a bit more reliable than a US dealer. I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do with this cam. Please keep the info coming.

Bogdan
10-26-2006, 02:29 PM
There are some examples posted on the Web and Redrock's forum. Like with any 35mm adapter, it's different world than camera alone. Of course, you loose 10..20% of resolution with the adapter (my educated guess), but you gain so much of artistic quality.

So, where do we stand after all? What is the official release date? When will the DEALERS have the cameras ready to be sold? I'm calling the guy at the store every freaking day. I thought the price would be around 3700€ but the guy told me it's around 3000€. I'm really praying for him to be right. I would still have some money left for a 35mm adapter. But I really wish the guy had said that before (he was the one who initially told me it would be 3700€)...I sold my M2 specifically so that I could afford the A1 (and because a big project I had was canceled).

Norbert
10-29-2006, 03:54 AM
