I have received HD footage on DVCPRO from another source. In the end, I need to pull a bunch of stills / frames off the video, and I need to very crudely edit the video. This is not for a production -- it's for a Master's thesis that deals with photogrammetric analysis of tornadoes. I should be able to get the video off the physical tape and into MXF files with the help of others. My question is now -- what is the best way to go about accomplishing what I want to do? This is a one-time thing, so I don't want to drop $1k on software. Per the Adobe website, Premiere Pro 2 apparently natively edits DVCPRO video, and I can get the education discount to drop the price of PP2 to $200, which I should be able to swing. However, on this forum, and many others, I've heard mention of various intermediate software packages (CineForm, etc), apparently to interface PP2 with the DVCPRO video. I'm confused...
Again, in the end, I'm going to need a bunch of JPGs (or similar static image format) in the video stills, and a couple very crudely-edited HD clips (I don't care what final format the clips are in -- QT, WMV-HD, etc -- I just need them to play on my PC for a presentation). I apologize for the incredibly elementary questions, but I'm a non-fish in a big pond in this regard.
