Hello:

I'm going to be using the canon XL H1 and would like to know what would be the best technique to achieve a ghostlike effect through undercranking. The way i did it on other cameras was i shot at 12fps and slowed it down in post production. Since the canon can't shoot in 12fps would there be another recommend way i could achieve this effect. A movie that comes to mind that had this effect was near the end of V for Vendetta during the fight scene - ghost like blurs followed his motion.

Thanks for reading

1/12 shutter speed is 12 fps in 24F mode...sorta.

Speed it up 200% in a 24p timeline (with frame blending off) and it will skip frames to have undercranked fast motion roughly equivalent to 12 fps...with noticeable motion blur.

Sure thing. :)

Experiment with different shutter speeds and faster speed-ups in your timeline. At least with FCP, it's really easy to take 24F material and speed it up for undercrank/timelapse effects. Choose your intervalometer look in post, rather than in-camera.

I think I shot this "undercrank" effect at 1/12 shutter.
