View Full Version : Does adapter affect smooth Dolly?

I have noticed that all of my dolly shots with the Letus are not quite that smooth. The ones with just the camera, however, are very nice and flowing. I wonder if this has to do with having to zoom in to fill frame into the adapter GG? Could this be the reason since when zoomed in every shake is usually more obvious?

In addition to the zoom, you've added at least 6 inches of additional distance for the light to travel through. That basically means that vibrations at the end of your lens will be even more dramatic than if you didn't have that extra 6 inches.

What kind of rail system are you using? Is the camera tied down to it or simply resting on the ledge of the support rail? You might want to move the support piece as close to the lens mount on the adapter as possible and tie it down if you haven't already.

I use the cavision rail for the letus. Right now I have the rail attached to the very end of the lens -- the farthest it can go. One thing I was thinking about was that most of my dolly shots prior to this were medium to fast pace. Right now I was trying slow movements in addition to the Letus and I'm finding it a bumpy ride. I also think that some of the skateboard wheels have some small dents which may also be contributing to this issue.
