Hi everyone

I have been using P2 log on 2 projects shot in 720pn25 at varioous variable frame rates, with FCP 504 . P2 log instructions were to move an original codec "DVCProHDVideoOutputCodec.component" to a created temp folder in the library/quicktime folder . Then install Imagines Pass-through codec. That created a dvcproHD 720p50 option in the compressor settings within Sequence settings.

With the upgrade to 512 ( directly over 504 ) , I did not move or delete Imagines codec.
I now have 2 x 720p50 options in the compressor settings dropdown menu. My P2 log footage needs to be rendered with the 2nd 720p50 setting and is fine with the old one.

I have a few questions which I hope can be answered or discussed.

01) Do I need to delete Imagines Pass through codec? if so, do I then have to reimport from my backup of the original P2 media . Drama.... and will I be able to relink the footage to what I have already edited on my timelines?
We purchased 4 serial numbers for P2 log . It seems like such a waste and forces one to use FCP on set. I found P2 log so manageable and interface friendly. But I suppose once used to FCP interface it shouldn't be a problem.

02) Is there supposed to be an easy setup for 720p25 or 50? I do not see them.

03) I have a problem applying filters like colour correction and speed changes to my clips. The sequence says the clip is rendered, but when I watch them on playback, they appear in strange lines, as if needing to be rendered.

Anyone have any ideas?

So I have started to relog everything using FCP import Panasonic P2 command. I have deleted Imagines codec and am basically giving up on P2 log. :crybaby:

It is a real mission and am cross referencing the original names to the new imports so that I can reattach the media without any hassles. ( Funny that, the whole thing is a hassle )

I am hoping that this will solve my render problem too.

Aaah, the joys of editing...

Any ideas on easy setup from anyone?

I, for one, don't mourn P2 Log becoming redundant - it was always a temporary solution anyway and its importing was always a bit glitchy. I don't have enough experience with FCP 512 to say our troubles in PAL-land with 720/25P are over.

One thing you could try to deal with the messy codec is this:

- In Sequence Settings, click on the Video Processing tab:
- If it’s set to Always Render in RGB, you get the venetian blind artefacts on render.
- If video processing is set to Render to 8-bit YUV, (or high-precision YUV), the artefacts do not seem to appear when you render the sequence.

good luck with hassle-banishing
Tom

The pdf confirms what I tentatively assumed, bummer.. Thanks for the link, there is a lot on their site which is extremely helpful.

I too do not mourn the loss of P2 Log, but the cost for 4 licences where 2 have not even been installed yet, sucks. And having to relog and capture app 600 clips ... say no more.
Thanks too for the tip about YUV rendering. Unfortunately it did not work, but i will remember that for other projects.
