removable shotgun mount???

I'm wondering if I can remove the shotgun mount shown here:

I'd rather use a boom pole or, if need be, at least a shock isolator in the hot shoe mount.

If I do use this on-camera mount, does anyone think it'll be good at shock isolation?

Anyone know if this will be removable?

It looks a lot like the mount that came with my DVX. I would imagine that it's going to ship in the box unattached.
