Workflow for HVX202 & G5 Dual 2.3

Hi Guys

Ive just purchased a HVX202, and i own a G5 2.3Dual,
No Doubt this has been covered, but once the vision has been recorded on my P2 cards, what is the best way you would you transfer the data to my G5 using FCP as my editor.

Best? P2 Genie.

Cheapest? Drag the whole P2 card contents to your hard drive, ingest from there. NEVER try to ingest directly from the card using FCP.

Get FCP 5.1.2 if you don't have it already.

FCP 5.1.2 has a great P2 import window that brings all your footage into FCP as QuickTime DVCPRO-HD. Also, you want to copy the LASTCLIP.txt file and the CONTENTS folder off the P2 card to a backup medium somewhere. That acts as your original tape in case you need to get back to it. You can also copy these files to your local hard drives with drag and drop. Just plug the camera into your G5, put it in PC mode, and work away! You never have to remove the cards. And you'll re-format the cards in the camera, not with your computer.

I have stopped using P2 Geine, which I loved, and P2 Log, which I hated, since the 5.1.2 update. FCP imports things just fine now.

BTW, I ingest directly from P2 cards, more often directly from the FS-100, no problems. But I always back up the orignial MXF files.

so, im getting my NVX202 in a week, and the question is do i buy anything else ??
I only make 30 sec TVC's max.
Using only one minute or two of footage..what to do....what to do???

Theirs no problem going from camera to FCP.
All data remains on card after import !
