for those who care and enjoyed Crawlspace
(i posted here so it would be seen, thinking that alot of people are not checking the individual films section as much)

Let's start with introductions first. I would be a friend of Kdawg's, who was involved in the creation and completion of Crawlspace.

I wanted to post after reading the thread for crawlspace and thank those that posted with their encouraging comments and caustic critiques...jk... anyhow, i have always wanted to try my hand at making films, and after Kdawg becoming a member of this site and watching the previous festivals, decided to join him on this little adventure. Our first attempt was for the hero fest....we bit off more than we could chew on that one (meaning the type of story, location, and such) and had to end the production uncompleted. then came this horror fest (i am not a fan of the average horror movie, i prefer sci fi horror or suspense ttype films). I decided to go with this one, on the advice of Kdawg and our film editor, so we could get a film finished. we only had three weeks to come up with a story, shoot, edit and sound record (which was done on the last day before submital). In order to get the film done in a short time i suggested shooting it all at my house and using us as the actors (i am the main character, kdawg was the monster (i did the make-up in 30 minutes for those that thought it was cheesy), and our third collaborater was the real estate agent. We brainstormed and Kdawg had an idea about the tape (the one found in the film) showing an event inside the house. I then suggested the scariest thing i know of which is being trapped in a tight place (i am a serious claustrophobic) and so combine the two and there you have it.

Kdawg ran the camera, sound, and some editing ( he knows alot about that camera for only having it a short while, frankly i am a director, creative type and have no idea how to do anything with editing software or camera settings) our other collaberator did the editing and was good at keeping the continuity proper (meaning how the shots ran togther when we were shooting them). i handled the directing, story and shot concepts ( i was pleasantly surprized at how many people liked the money shot). We had huge problems at the end when we exported the film (frame rate was crap, sound got screwed up, and the codec turned it into 4:3). It is depressing that you guys got to see such a crappy version of the film.

Last of all, I have learned so much after making this film and appreciate all the comments that have been made (its great to see crawlspace mentioned in the 'what do you like so far' thread, when its our first film and when we had so many tech problems). I do enjoy peoples comments about it being a good concept which is what i was going for. It being the first completed film i was so worried about getting it done that i had to ignore some of the continuity problems and if we had more time i would have added more to the claustrophobia and would of added effects, but....ah well it was great fun (when we finished it.. that is......making the movie was one of the most stressul things i have done)

out of the few i watched (bloody mary, rekindled, halfway, the commitment, lakeside)
i liked halfway (after seeing this one i knew i should of started into the 'action' sooner) and the commitment ( i enjoy the suspense and scares, rather than gore and blood)
..........bloody mary had good lighting, actors .....rekindled had a nice look to it but the story made me sick.......lakeside hmmm, well done, but its a teen horror flick for goodness sake...hehe

thanks

oops i forgot to mention an important fact. kdawg is an awesome builder, he built the jib and the dolley track and all the equipment used for the film.....he is so clever.

also thanks for the posts you've made theatre guy...it is a shame you live so far away. it would be fun to collaborate on a film...
