I have been trying to find a way to hook my HVX to my Mac using the Firewire cable, get a live feed on the screen at 1080i (30p), and hit a button to capture a single still image that would be saved as a .tga, .tif, .jpg or whatever.
My reasons for doing this over using the "one-shot record" function in the HVX are as follows:
1. Using the "one-shot record" method gives me a 1-frame compressed .mov file. I'd rather save as an uncompressed .tga or .tif.
2. I am preparing to capture a bunch of still photos, etc. Some of these are from books that are hard to place on a scanner. Setting up the HVX to point down at a lighted table will make getting the photos in the computer much faster than scanning them one at a time.
3. Using the "copystand" setup, I can frame the photos for 16x9 quickly without having to perform those steps in a scanner or photoshop.
I have tried hard to find a simple program or solution to do this. Final Cut Pro does not have a "single frame capture" button that I can locate. I thought it would be easy to find a simple utility for the mac to do this, but I've had no luck to this point.
I can resort to doing this using the "one-shot record" function, but before I do, I thought I would post here to see if any of you know of another way.
Thanks in advance for any ideas...
Mike
