From a guy who's hand hands on with the cameras. His reasonings and his choice. THis isn't going to be everyone's choice but he's a trusted source. A very good read.

Very interesting. I'm glad to hear about artifact free extreme motion captured with the camera and good low light performance.
Thanks Kholi. Thanks Kaku!

You guys shouldn't just base it off of seeing the HDV footage.
Find a way to screw with the saturation and all of that stuff. The m2t is basically the HDV file, so you'll get a chance to see what it's like when you post process it.
Take the 60i into a supporting NLE and strangle it. Then judge.
edit: if you can, that is. I think Vegas supports, but you have to update to the new FCP to import m2t's.

i did it of course. using mpegstreamclip. and then playing with color finesse in after effects. it s a matter of taste but i really like the results. hvx is really nice but there s something too videoish in the footage, too clean, too soap opera. and when i see macgregors hdv footages, "tomorrow is today" , my sony hc1 videos and now the a1 clips i'm pretty sure to buy one of these new hdvs now. i ve done some very nice slowmo shooting in 50i in hdv. so no need for variable frame rates. and the 4:2:2 of the hvx is a very nice feature but i don t really like the look in fact. i was hesitating between the hvx (because of the wolves footage which is amazing but this is the only one i found in this category) and hdv yesterday but i don t hesitate anymore.
if no major issues are coming before it reaches french shops i will go for it.at this price it s not a mistake.
the kaku band footage looks like a dvx footage in hd.
just personal opinion of course ....
sorry for my bad english

No, I get you. I was saying that the footage holds up really well.
A1 is going to be a bad ass camera.

Ito did a good job getting so many shots up, but the use in manual functions seems limited, as in the shutter speed is mpstly at 1/48th suitable for some shots not for others etc. Would be great to see some lit shots... as in proper lighting etc as well. Which I promise to do if in fact I do turn out to be one of the first to get the cam.

I did some CC on premiere and it looks amazing! I'm blown away by the DOF and the bokeh on this camera. It doesn't have that "fake" video DOF. Some of the shots actualy look like they were shot with a VERY GOOD 35mm adapter.

Yeahp. Elton dropped the hint to try it in VLC, I have yet to take it into an NLE but I assumed it would hold up just as well.
Just wait until narrative footage starts showing up.

Hey Barry, you've been very quiet lately. Did you see Kaku's footage? What do you think? Lets hear it from the master.

I thought some of it looked great, some looked mediocre. Just like with the V1, some looked pretty darn good, some looks not so good. I appreciate Kaku's tests because he makes notes of what aperture etc., and he tries to shoot the same thing with each camera. But it's not controlled circumstances, etc. So I'm content to wait and get my hands on it and put it through side-by-side and controlled-circumstances testing.

Fair enough. I'm hoping to get my hands on one soon. Anybody interested in buying a FX1E? How about you, Barry? I know you just love it. ;-)

I ordered my XH A1 a couple weeks ago. I'll try to get some footage up as soon as it comes in. Any requests?

Me too. It's my favorite movie. Huge fan of Ramis and Reitman.

I was just watching Caddyshack the other day and marvelling at Chevy Chase at the top of his game. Between that, Vacation and Fletch, it's amazing to imagine what he'd be up to today if he hadn't snorted his career away. I mean if he hadn't, Ryan Reynolds probably wouldn't be making such a nice living off aping Chase's schtick.

Ryan Reynolds is such a Chevy Chase. But, I guess Chase is getting old, anyway and this Generation needs someone like Ryan. He's a great character, honestly.

Yeah, I wasn't a Ryan Reynolds fan at first. He only really had one bit in Van Wilder that I liked, but after Waiting and Just Friends I was convinced. I also dug his cameo in Harold and Kumar...

Guys' got range, to be honest. I didn't mind his performance in Amityville at all, to be honest.

Yeah, I liked his performance. I just hated the movie. Sorry, I prefer the originals when it comes to remakes.
We should probably keep the topic on the camera. Good talking to you though.
