Anyone use this head? what do you think of it? how bout compared to the 503? Is it an older model or something? cause I can't find a whole lot of info on it.

Hmmm... after searching the forums, I've found very little info on it, but I did read that it is a "monster" of a head, and could be overkill with the dvx. Well, I just picked up a canon XL2 with full rails and a chrosziel matte box, along with a LOT of other goodies, and compared to even the XL1s, it's a monster.

Is it true fluid, though?

Don't know why I got moved to the XL2 sub forum. This is a simple question about a tripod, NOT about an XL2. I posted in the cafe, because it didn't fit specifically in any other area. If there was a "Hardware" subforum for ALL gear, not just "dvx hardware" or "hvx hardware", then I would have posted it there.

The tripod would be used on numerous camcorders, not just the XL2, and if you read my original post, I was simply asking about the tripod. I don't appreciate being moved to the XL2 forum.

The 3066 is for a camera that weighs 30 pounds. I have a friend that has one and is unable to follow action because it tilts so slow, even with an XL1 on it. Definately go with the 503. Yes it is an older model. Probably make for haveier film cameras

I have the 3066. It is a tank of a head but I don't have to worry about jitters. I was bored on Monday and took it apart to check it out. It is not a true fluid head. It has a series of grooves that intermesh with a VERY sticky grease as a lube. That's what causes the dreaded sluggish movement. So I'm gonna degrease the whole thing and but in some less tacky bearing grease.

Going back to the size I'd rather have a tripod that can handle almost any camera I come across than to be short changed on the set.
