I'm creating barbed wire in 3ds max and was wondering if there was a way edit a loft compound object similar to the way you edit splines. What I'm trying to accomplish is wrapping a logo in barbed wire.

So long as you start of with an editable spline, and you do not collapse the stack then you should be able to edit the spline with ease., then when you click back onto the loft compound it updates it.

Well, after some thinking about barbed wires, I decided to see if I could model barbed wires myself, this is what I come up with (based on your Logo Idea):

My findings, keep an eye on your poly count, it starts to go up very quickly

This is the original I started on a few days ago, before I added the rest of the barbs. But after seeing your example I'm definately reconsidering making the wire the barbs are on inter-twined.

Hey thats pretty good! I like the texure work, did you use any bump maps?
Basically, what I did was to make a helix spline, and have one that was set to Clockwise and then I made another helix that had the same values, but was counterclockwise to get the "intertwined" then I lofted them and moved them into place, then the fun bit was when put a pathDeform on it and made it follow a rectangle thats how it bends round the logo. The little barbs was done using helix with 5 turns, then I edited the spline so the ends stick out.

I just used a rust texture from 3d max. I created the main wire with a helix spline using 6.5 turns. The barb is pretty much the same, a helix with 2.5 turns. I then put it to a path constraint and made an instance of the range with the snapshot tool. I found a tutorial for this.
