This is for everyone to post where they watched their Horrorfest entries from... granted most of them will probably be from their computer screens... mine was from my NLE - just imported em after d/l and put em through to the surround sound and the big screen! what an experience!!!

I would've done that but I didn't think to use the NLE to output.

The files were pretty small, you thought they were high enough res to view?

Actually wasn't bad, I more or less did it for the surround sound... but I certainly thought it made the experience 20 times better.

Kyle, that is VERY COOL! What a great idea!

And thanks for the extra screen time! :)

(that was kind of weird at first to see myself in my film in your house!!!)

Didn't mean to creep you out, haha. Your film happened to be up when I got the idea to take the picture. I, of course, fastforwarded to that spot because it was scary as shit... but i'm glad you like it.

you're a movie star now!!

You know, that shot is pretty funny. That crap on the wall is GROUND PORK mixed with FAKE BLOOD and SPLATTERED on the wall by force!

NASTY!

Did you watch all of 'Flesh' on the big screen in surround sound? I don't think I could handle that.

I've got an ATI AIW card, so with some tweaking the video automatically pops into fullscreen on the TV. That's the ticket.

atta boy!!! -- i had to wait about ten minutes per film to render... so pick out your films prior to hooking up to your entertainment system and then watch your favorites through your NLE. -- It's worth the wait to render.

filled it to the brim with 1gb of ddr2 memory... its too bad it cant be upped to 2gb. oh well, its only a laptop i guess =)

good stuff, though. i would love to learn avid... i used premiere. i love editing with it but haven't been sold on it's export ability.

brandon - what do you export in? i export to .avi out of premiere and then h.264 with QT pro. i would love to know what you did because your h.264 turned out so much better than mine!

I watched all the movies on my PC with an EIZO 19'' Flat monitor.....kinda sucks actually, its too dark....when I watched my own movies on a TV set I was shocked by the perfect brightness/contrast settings! So I cant wait for the HorrorFest DVD to have a proper viewing.

From Avid, I exported a Quicktime Reference file (It points directly to the raw video files on my drive) and then I opening in QT Pro and exported the H264 :)

That is a cool player. Does it play Quicktimes or do you have to export them to Windows Media?

Not sure what issues you were having with Premiere, but I export raw avi in premiere and then compress with QT Pro. I guess you can watch my film to see if the quality is what you like/expect. I thought it came out pretty sharp.

You have to convert the files to WMVs, flip4mac works just fine for that.

Did you get a chance to watch BUFFALO SAMSON on that big screen kyleman!?
I've found it to be a wonderful experience :)

Yeah, that was sharp. Alot sharper than mine...
I have a couple questions:
1) DVX or HVX
2) What were your QT Pro settings?

And Magicchildfilms... I sure did watch Buffalo Samson on the big screen. I watched for the first time on there and about fell out of my chair when he came back in at the end to kill the interrogator. Nice work!!

1) DVX100b
2) I am at work not at home, but I'll check when I get back. Off the top of my head, I recall I played with the bitrate settings and ended up going with 1200 I think. I will confirm later this evening (EST).

Hey Kyleman71, these were my settings:

Video

Compression: H.264
Quality: High
Key frame rate: 24
Bitrate: 1200kbits/sec
Frame reordering: yes
Encoding mode: multi-pass
Dimensions: 400x225

> Drill down in Settings:

Data rate Restrict to 1200 kbits/sec
Compressor - Encoding Best Quality (Multi-pass)

Sound

Format: AAC
Sample Rate: 24.000kHz
Channels: Mono
Bit rate: 24kbps

I hope that helps. If you're wondering about size, my short was 5:25 long, started out as 10 and a half gigs, compressed down to about 46MB.

Kyle Stebbins

I've been watching these mostly on my laptop, and generally with headphones so I can hear the nuances in the sound that get lost on computer speakers.

But we're going to be doing an HD screening of Meat with 5.1 surround sound at FotoKem in Burbank in a couple of weeks. If anyone wants to go, let me know.

I've got a ZD8000 but the screen went dead about a month after it went out of warranty. I have an external monitor hooked up to it now. I have seen on some forums where this has been a problem with this laptop apparently.

Yeah... my battery DOESN'T EVEN WORK ANYMORE! But... it's a beast all the same :) I want to get a new battery and I also want to snag some more RAM for it... But, I may wait... I want to build a monster desktop system soon.

I'm in your EXACT SAME POSITION man... I already have 1gb of ddr2 memory in this beast (thats the max it allows) and my battery works but only for 40-50 minutes, not even a full hour. as for the monitor, mark, i havent had any problems so far...

THE HUSKERS LOST TO TEXAS TODAY!!!! Man, and it was ALL BECAUSE they got their DAMN FIELD GOAL in the last 10 Mother F'ing SECONDS!!!!!!
