Hey guys ... New to the HD export and am running into a few walls .. any help would be hugely appreciated.

I have an HVX-HD project (960 x 720) ready to export from FCP. I need it in 2 formats: DVD, and SD tape to hand over to a guy to convert to digibeta.

My questions are:

1- How do I down-rez to SD (tried exporting as a QT file but doesn't retain the widescreen format)?

2 - How do I convert to a file that I can bring into DVDSP?

Man I was a wiz with SD .. now I feel like I'm 5 years old and don't know anything!!!

For DVD, export current settings audio and video, self contained, no compression.

Drop it into Compressor, and elect the 16:9 preset for the length of video you have. Also use AC3 audio (Dolby2)

Where do you take off the compression? When I export as a quicktime mov, I don't change anything. Do I need to change something to no compression? Where is that?

Cool. Yeah worked well. Thanks man.

*compression would be the result of self contained, though - right?

What about making a version for digibeta conversion. I used to just export to tape (miniDV) and hand that over and they would up-rez and close caption. Now I'm not sure how to deliver an SD version of this...any ideas?

Have you tried copying your sequence/timeline to a new sequence that is set up for DV50/SD? During the rendering process I believe it should take care of the "downrezzing."

I have not tried it myself so I could be way off base.

Hmm...I'll give it a shot and report back. In theory .. it should work. I wonder if I'm "loosing" more data that way versus any other way...

Well, seems like it should have worked. Also, I have bigger fish to fry now. For some reason any clip that has a frame size manipulation (used for transition effects) is blown out of proportion (I can actually say that here and it really means ... well, just that!).

All of the other "normal" footage lays in sequence just fine and I suspect that it would render and be exportable to tape at that point.

But now I solve for x by solving y first. damn.
