Okay, so I've got some questions:
Should I buy my A1 from Amazon.com? They have it and say that it will be released Oct. 30th. Will that count as an authorized dealer?
I am leaving Nov. 10th for Africa. I really want to take this camera with me. What is the best way to guarantee that I get it before my flight leaves Houston?
Any suggestions for dealers or other ideas would be great.

I'd wait until you actually know it's out. October 30th seems a blanket date. I think the A1 is due out mid-october and the G1 early November.

A1 will not come out mid October. You will see it early November. Id guess that at Amazon they say 30 October then take about 2-3 weeks to fill your order, I wwould be careful on that count.

Search the Web from time to time. Some vendors may have it in stock sooner (usually by air) while others tell you to wait. However, it comes with special price tag for DPs i.e. Desperate People :Drogar-Love(DBG):

I've heard on DVinfo that the A1 will be shipping mid october. Canon has already set the region numbers for distribution so they're probably shipping to the states now, it'll depend on customs as to when we see them.
I read this on DVinfo.net

That's exactly what I've been reading everywhere: Mid-october with the G1 coming in early november. Dunno, though.

I think you will find that was early info and somewhat speculative. Later posts suggest end of October at the earliest. The release dates I was able to ascertain via searching was 30/10/2006, still that was from only two suppliers out of mnay who had it listed with no date.
Is release date usually available date though?
