Very short clips, with limited range. Have to say it would be hard to do anything with a "Heres a camera for a few hours" in Japan the last few days... nothing but rain.

Lots of dark areas not showing much noise so thats a plus.

oh man, I'm away from home and have a slow connection! Can't check out these clips 'til tomorrow. Argh!

What does everyone think?

Ten(10) being XH-A1
Zero(0) being my camera phone...

Haha, anyway, can't wait 'til tomorrow when I get home!

And that makes me think cameras tested by Mikko must have had been set in Auto (or at least auto Gain). There was just too much noise in those images and the whole set was dark. In comparison, Sony's presentation looked like the sunny day on the beach.

Yeah and I still think it could be less. This guy only had the cam a short time and doesnt have the low down like Elton does. Still pretty good. Many thanks for him for getting them up of course. As soon as I can Im going to fiddle with Eltons settings and compare.

Yeah I am jealous as hell :P

I agree, it could be somewhat cleaner, but the scene was actually low light situation. It looks like the camera was simply picking dark greys in the background, possibly more with Black set Stretch. That's why Elton suggested Middle or Press settings.

What does everyone think?

Ten(10) being XH-A1
Zero(0) being my camera phone...OK I will play!

It depends...

IMHO (but I didn't see yet all the footage available, be careful!)

7-8 if compared with the other footage from the same shooter;

6-7 if compared with the Michael Pappas lowlight footage;

EDIT -- Just in terms of comparision (in order to understand my criteria) I'd say that I'd give:

2-3 to what I could see from the IBC presentation posted over here (so, at least, you have 2x more than the last information available) even if, it was posted XLH1 footage too; with lower performance (4-5? maybe not even) far away from what we know coming from the Robert stuff or the Steven ducks.

Oh my gosh, I just downloaded two 24f (pan across fountain & pan across buds).

This footage absolutely blows me away. Even for such low light, there doesn't seem to be much if any noise.

Going back and looking at the V1u footage, there is no comparison. Expecially taking into consideration the low light aspect.

I can't wait!

Did anyone else pay attention to the nice bokeh it has? Cool!

Norbert

The bokeh is very nice there, so is the dark areas in the bakground. I thought it would be noisier. It would be cool to see some real noise tests and comparisions when this camera has hit the market.

Yeh, the bokeh is perfect, hexagonal and everything! So nice!

I seriously wanna get this ASAP!!!

when will it be available in US? Still looking like middle of this month?

Me want! Me want!

(so glad I saved the money)

Yeah, seriously. This thing looks sweet. If Panasonic doesn't announce anything before spring next year I think they might lose a costumer (me).

I'm not judging this footage by content, but my image. And if you guys have yet to check this out on an HDTV you're doing yourself a massive disservice. These clips are great for what they are.

I'm pretty much sold on the A1.

I'm downloading every single clip.

It' sgetting crazy positive reviews just off of test footage, and I don't think Kaku is really adept to the settings yet.

I'm excited.

I know!!!

That's what I was like!!!

Dude and Kaku said that he didn't even massage it. He just backed off of the gain so that it wasn't TOO BRIGHT!

I know that story and sheer talent is what matters most, but golly!

This piece of equipment is inspiring!!

I can hardly wait!

Try adjusting the night taxi ride clip in VLC with some added contrast and saturation. (on the Mac VLC it's under "Extended Controls")

Pretty sweet. :)

LMFAO.

Elton that was a dope suggestion. Even when I do it with the 60i material it's so damned dope.

That's NUTS. This camera r0cks.

I predict the A1 will be a very popular camera. :) Good thing FCP finally works properly with 24F now.

Yeah, that's a very good thing. Came right in time for the A1. Awesome move my Canon.

How do you boost contrast in VLC?

Drew Ott
10-15-2006, 08:38 PM
Nevermind I figured it out.

BTW I downloaded all 30 clips of this and have watched each about 20 times. I'm in love.

Kholi

They're great, aren't they?

Sweet camera coming in at about 4300 after tax. Delicious.

I can't wait to see some narrative work from the G1/A1

There won't be tax if you order out of stage*, correct?

*edit: state

Kholi

Y'know? I have NO idea about that. Might want to ask someone.

If so-- out of state it be.

bball ~

just to let you know, if you buy this camera from tapeworkstexas.com you won't pay tax, texas doesn't charge sales tax for any video equipment that will be used for broadcast or film purposes. So unless you're buying this for your home movies, you qualify.

Use the money you saved on tax and buy a few extra batteries!!!

www.tapeworkstexas.com (http://www.tapeworkstexas.com)

ask for jason price, tell him Brent suggested it (I won't make anything off it, just want him to know I care)(I just bought an A1 from them and they seriously rock.)

Peace

Are you in Texas? How does that work? You pay the tax from the state you're purchasing from?

There's a great example of how it works. Looks like I won't be ordering from CA distributors. I'd rather save hundreds and wait.

I think it might be only for Texas residents buying from Texas stores, that's why I directed it to bball~

Kholi

Nah, they don't have a shop here in CA so I pay Texas taxes (neat sounding) and not CA. >=D
